The Nuts and Bolts,as they are nicknamed by fans, will now be called Ashford United. The team has not been able to play at its Homelands ground for the last year after it got into financial difficulty and an ownership struggle broke out between board members . The problems meant the team was forced to resign from the Ryman League last August. In order to re-register, the Kent County Football Association (KCFA) said it would have to have a new name. Ashford, now in the hands of businessman Tony Betteridge, had tried to reform as Ashford Town, but the proposal was rejected by football’s governing body. Since leaving the Stones in October after 20 years as chairman,Bowden- forecourt wins Brown was enlisted to help Ashford’s reformation. Mr Betteridge said: “I’d like to thank Paul for all his help. The charity that has looked after neg- lected and abused children for 100 years is looking for 100 people to raise £100 by selling unwanted items on eBay. It also hopes a few unwanted Christmas presents may help to get the fraud bid money rolling in. As part of its centenary year, the foun- dation is hoping to raise £750,000 for projects such as a vocational training unit to help the older children in their care learn skills such as car mechanics, hair and beauty, and horticulture.
