All the best : d good luck for next year! Take advantage of every ;:portunity! SI ke Kalaydijan, Head Prefect J Dver the course of the past school year, the prefects had four orimary goals which were inspired by our design to bring our personal touch to the school and its' spirit. To begin, we focused on touse spirit, where we modified the house point system and Ipreated more house games. Angus, James and Minh improved Inter-grade relations by conducting the tutoring program and by strengthening the Big Brother program. Moreover, we made adjustments to the TAG program as a result of restricting the time | allocated, as well as implementing house meetings every month, ^additionally, Andrew, Dany, and I worked on our last goal of aommunication by focusing on using social media to create simpler ways for students to access needed information. This year has been nothing but success for me at Selwyn, and I hope the school continues to evolve with next year's prefects. Robert Dias It takes a village to finish a book PHOTOGRAPHY is the backbone of the yearbook and a lot of time and effort goes into taking the pictures you see on these pages. The great part about Photography is that anyone with a cell phone can take part. When you wantto learn more and challenge yourself with better equipment we have that. There is a huge difference between a cell phone picture and one taken with our best cameras and lenses. Interested in learning more? Speak to Ms. Lana or Mr. Bedard. GREAT STORIES are the difference between a decent yearbook and a great one. Journalism is on the rise at Selwyn. We want timely stories written by students. If you enjoy writing and want an audience, we would love to have you join the journalism team. It makes no difference if you are in Grade 1 or Grade 11, we want to have your writing in the yearbook. PAGE LAYOUT & DESIGN is an artform. Many who do not enjoy photography, really like designing pages and deciding which photos are put on those pages. Feeling creative? Design some of the pages for the 2019 yearbook. LEADERSHIP is the glue that makes the yearbook a solid publication. From Grade 6 to Grade 11, leadership opportunities await. EXPERr.NCE is the best teacher. Getting involved early in yearbook allows you to become better year after year so that your Grade 11 yearbook will be the best ever. From the Memorator- I Experiential education is a buzzword one hears regularly in conversations around the globe. The idea of leaving ts textbook to go hands on in or outside the classroom has some people very excited, particularly the students. Wi knew school could be intersting? Students looking for the experience of learning new skills and trying out new ides have always been interested in yearbook because it is experiential education and its best. It offers students the chan 3 to do somethig significant for an audience of over a thousand. It is real life. It requires student leadership. It alios learning new ideas, a chance create, the opportunity to fail & recover from failure and, most importantly for experienlil education, the opportunity to reflect and, in the process, grow. Yearbook attracts the best students in the school - those who want to do something great. Look at the students on these pages and you'll see a common element - they are fantastic; especially the editors. University admissions flag those who have been editors as they are the best of the best. Working with the best is why I love being an advisor. Thank you Adam for your vision. You are a perfect example of ntroverted leader. It has been fun watching the 2018 book come together. Thank you Sean for everything invovled in juggling 40 000 picture. Thanks also to the team of advisors - Ms. Poulin, Ms. Lana, Mme Deschamps, Ms. Morris, Ms. Virdee, M. Decelles, & Mme Jothy. Ms.McNutt, thxfora little yearbooker. Enjoy this labour of love. We invite everyone to get involved in the 2019 Yearbook. Even a little is good. s Editor's Message e 29, 2018 was lucky enough to have been able to work on Dylan & Eli, I think the book came together ost year's yearbook which, I think, was the best incredibly. me the school had ever produced. Jesse Caruso, I know that the book is not perfect, I don't think ost year's editor, was a fantastic person to watch such a thing exists, but the experience came nonage the yearbook in preparation for this year, pretty close. I can't think of a better way to have went into school last September incredibly spent my last year at Selwyn than in the computer lervous seeing the final product that was the lab with these incredible people. >016-17 book. Jonah Rosen Photo Editor s Letter s Photo Editor, I've been given the chance to go through and select all ie photos that will appear in this year's yearbook. That means putting in »ng hours on the ONLY computer that can do this - the one in Mr. Bedard's ffice. As much as I love the job, it would be great if we could get a room edicated to the job that so usually goes unnoticed, nave the task to take the thousands of photos taken and skim it down to ie hundreds we have space for. I find if very satisfying when I gef to the ottom of the page having selected all the good photos and I get to make iy betrothed, Adam, happy by uploading them all to the Jostens site we se. I've had a wonderful year as photo editor and give my best wishes to iy antecessor next year. It's a big job with few rewards along the way, but uge satisfaction at the end. L A IA LAND Which word best describes your feeling of coming back to school after your summer off? "I'm that person who every year has the pre-school nightmare. 'Will I be able to wake up on time?' 'Will I know what to do?' The start of the school year always terrifies me! Fortunately this year, these feelings didn't last long. By day one, I was already overwhelmed by the smiles and warmth of the staff at Selwyn and the sheer excellence of the learning experience this school encourages. This echoes my philosophy as a teacher so I knew immediately that this is the school for me!" - Ravinder Virdee "Starting a new school year is always slightly stressful; starting a new school year at a new school is nerve wracking. New faces, new names, a maze of hallways, yet this week at Selwyn House has been informative and welcoming. Everywhere I look someone is welcoming me to the staff, arms outstretched, and ears open. Everyone has gone above and beyond, with no question too small. Thank you to everyone and I am so lucky to be part of such a wonderful team. Cheers to a successful academic year!" - Haneefa Corbie rtoBcaeS COH^TlTlOM ■KouGjj',3 QOOGLt
