Cosatugeneralsecretary,ZwefinzimaVavi,andDavidJarvis,thethenacting directorofCotaHxtslabourpolicyresearchagency,NALEDI,kindlywroteus lettersofintroductionvribichhelpedopenmanydoorswhenourfieldworkers visitedworkplacesandunionofficestoadministerthesurvey. Students at the UniversitiesoftheWitwatersrand, PortJBlizabeth,Fort Hare andtheWestern Cape,aswellasindividuals in Durban and PortElizabeth y/Aio administered the questionnaire to hundreds of workers, acquitted themselveswithexceptionalprofessionalismandfacedthetaskwithadniirable enthusiasm.IntheWesternCapeAntheaMetcalfedidanexcellentjobofco- ordinatingthesurvey.
