Inthepresentpaper,I amgoingtodescribethreenewspeciesofTaiwanese Nazeris collected by Dr. A.SMETANA andMr. Y.SHIBATA. They resemblethe species belonging to theN feimoralisgroup but areeasily recognized on the unarmedmalehindtrochanters.0nanaccompanyingmap(Fig 8),thedistribution ofthenewspecieswillbeshown. Nazerissmetanaisp nov. (Figs.1-2) Bodyrathersmallbut robust,shining,black,mandibles, labrumandbasal two or threesegmentsofantennae reddish brown, maxillary and labial palpi, remainingantennalsegmentsandlegsyellowishbrown;pubescenceonbodysurface dark brown to black. Length:4.7mm. Headsuborbicularratherthansubquadrate,alittlelongerthanwide(1.05:1), coarsely, closely and more or less irregularly punctate, the arrangement of puncturesslightlydisturbedonsubdepressedfrons; labrumclearlyfour-toothed, widelyand triangularlynotchedinmiddle, theinnertwo teeththickandalittle longerthantheoutertwo;vertexgentlyconvex;eyesrelativelylarge,prominent, thelongitudinaldiameterclearlylargerthanahalfthelengthofpostgena;postgenae roundly narrowed toward neck; antennae slightly surpassing the middle of pronotum,all thesegmentsdistinctlylongerthanwide,1stsegmentveryrobust andnearlyaslongasthefollowingtwosegmentstogether,2ndshortestbutwide, 3rd to10thgraduallyshorteneddistad,11thslightly longer andwider than the 10th. Ventral surface of head similarlypunctate thoughmoreregularly to the dorsalsurface;mentumshiny,submentumlessso. pronotum oval, longer than wide (1.14:1), a little shorter (0.93:1) and 42 Tatoo ITO narrower than head (0.86:l), widest at apical third, fromwhere thesidesare strongly roundedapicadandgentlysobasad;discmorecoarsely punctatethan onhead,thepuncturesbecominglesscoarselaterad,somewhatirregularlyarranged nearmedianline,whichisnarrow,hardlydiscernible,andtraceableinbasalhalf, with feebledepressiononeachside. Elytrasubtriangular,moderatelynarrowedatshoulders,considerablyshorter thanpronotum(0.86:1),widthatthewidestpartnearapicesabout twiceaswide asbasesandhardlywider thanpronota1width;surfaceslightlyundulate,coarsely, closelyandalittlerugoselypunctate,thepuncturesintermediateinsizebetween thoseonheadandonpronotum.Prosternumcoarselyand transverselyseriate- punctate,mediancarinaratherobtuseandalmostvanishingattheapicalextrem- ity.Scutellumperceptiblypunctate. Abdomenslightlydilated laterad,puncturesonbasal tergitessimilarlysized asthoseonhead,becomingfiner towardapical tergites, thoseoneach sternite coarser thanonthecorrespondingtergite,thoseonterminal tergiteveryfineand obsolete. Inmale,5thsternitescarcely,6thweaklyand7thmoderatelydepressed alongmiddle,8thsternitenotdepressedand rather widelyandshallowlyexcised atapicalmargin inmiddle;hindtrochanterswithoutanyhooksonoutersides. Malegenitaliatrilobed,medianlobecomposedofbasalspheroidalpieceand apical sclerotizedpart, theapicalpartshapedasabamboo-leaf, pointedat tip and slightly curved ventrad; a pair of apophyses heavily sclerotized, strongly expanded laterad,sharplypointedat apices, not extendingbeyond theapex of medianlobeandclearlythickenedinmiddle,whenviewedlaterally. Holotype: e, Mt.Taipingshan (l,880m), IlanHsien, Taiwan, 14-VII-1993, A.SMETANAleg.(CanadianNationalInsectCollection,Ottawa). Though thepresent species isgenerallysimilar in thepunctuation to the membersof theN femoralisgroup, it iseasilydistinguished fromthelatterby theunarmedmalehindtrochanters.ItisalsoalliedtoN pa11idipesREITTERfrom Caucasus in therobust body, but is immediately discriminated by much closer punctureson thebody,obviouslyshorter labra1teethandquitedifferentshape ofaedeagus. 2 Figs. 1-2. Length:5.0mm. Headsubquadrate,slightlylonger thanwide(1.07:1),coarsely,closelyand rather regularlypunctate, thepuncturesscarcelydisturbed inarrangementeven on subdepressed frons; labrum with inner teeth a little longer than the outer; vertex evenly convex, postgenae subpara11e1-sided, slightly and sublinearly narrowedbehindandwidelyangulatedtowardneck;eyesmoderate-sized,withthe longitudinal diameter about ahalf the length of postgena; antennae slender, extendingbeyond themiddleofpronotum,all thesegmentsclearlylonger than wide, 1st segment robust and longest, 2nd shortest, 3rd to 10th gradually decreasinginlengthdistad,10thapproximatelyequalinlengthto2ndandshorter than11th.Ventralsurfaceofheadsimilarlypunctatetothedorsalsurface. Pronotumovate, longerthanwide(1.20:1),aboutaslongasandnarrower thanhead(0.89:1),widestat apicalthird, fromwherethelateralsidesaremore gently rounded basad than apicad; disca1puncturescoarseand close, slightly coarser thanonhead,andsomewhat irregular inarrangement onbothsidesof median line,which exists inbasal half. Elytra widened apicad, rather weakly contracted at bases, shorter than pronotum(0.79:1),widestnearapices,andaswideaspronota1width;surface slightlyundulateandcoarsely,rugoselypunctate,thepuncturesalittleirregular in formduetoslight undulations.Prosternumwithmedian carinadiminishing apicadinheight,andalmostinvisiblenearapicalmargin. Abdomenslightlyenlargedlaterad,widestat6thsegment, fromwhichit is narrowedbothapicadandbasad,withpuncturescoarseandcloseonbasaltergites, fineandsparseonapical tergites,thoseonsternitesdeeperthanontheopposite tergjtes.Inmale,6thsterniteveryweaklyorscarcelydepressedalongmiddle,7th sternjteweaklyso,8thsternitenotdepressedandratherdeeplyand triangularly 3 4 Fjgs.3_4.Nazertsyasutoshiisp nov;3,aedeagusinlateralview;4,sameinventralview 44 Tatoo ITO excisedatapicalmargininmiddle,eachhindtrochanterandhindfemurnormally formed,withoutanyspecificfeatures. Malegenitaliawithapicalpart ofmedian lobesharplytriangular,bending ventrad,pointedatapexandprovidedwithapairoflateralprocessesnearbasal third, theprocessessemitransparent, incurvedand directedbackwardat apices; apophysesratherweaklysclerotized,withadistincttriangulartoothoneachinner sideat basal third, slightly incrassateapicad in ventral viewand moderately extendingbeyondthetipofmedianlobe. Holotype: NearChihtuan, IlanHsien,Taiwan,23-VII-1978,Y.SHIBATA , leg. (TokyoUniversityofAgricultureCollection, Tokyo). Thepresentspeciesresembles N perslm11isingeneralappearancewith the exceptionofthefollowingdifferences:themalehindtrochantersnotuncinate,the aedeaga1shapequitedifferent,and themale7thsternitemoredeeplyandmore distinctlydepressed. ThisspeciesisnamedafterMr.YasutoshiSHIBATA,Tokyo, towhomI am muchindebted forhisofferofmaterialandinmanyotherways. N「azerissimulanssp nov. (Figs5-7) Body a little shining, reddish brown, head slightly lightened, abdomen darkened,antennaeexcept for1stsegment,mouthpart andlegssordidyellow, withbrownishtoblackishpubescence. Pronotum oval, longer than wide (1.24:1), a little longer (1.04:1) and narrower(0.88:1) thanhead;lateralsides,eachbearingtwoor threelongsetae near thewidest part at apical third,arcuatelyconvergent apicadandgradually andsublinearlysobasad;disca1puncturescoarse,closeanddeep,becomingfiner laterad,andslightlydisarrangedalongmiddlenearbasebymedianlinewhichis hardly observable, with faint depression on each side. Scutellum small and seeminglydevoidofdistinctpunctures.Prosternumwithmediancarinaweakened near apex. Elytraveryshort,narrowedbasad,notstronglycontractedatshoulders,much shorter (0.72:1) and scarcely narrower than pronotum, coarsely, closely and somewhat rugoselypunctate. Abdomenslightlydilated toward6thsegment, thennarrowedtowardapical segments,without anymicrosculpture, andwithpuncturesusuallydiminishing distadinsize.Inmale,7thsternitehardlydepressedalongmiddle,8thsternitenot depressed and triangularly excised at apical margin; hind femora and hind trochanterswithoutanypeculiarities. Malegenitaliasimilarinstructuretothoseoftheprecedingspecies,butslightly moreslenderanddelicate,medianlobesimilarlycurvedventrad,sharplypointed at thetip andwithapairof lateralprocessesbehindmiddle; apophysesmuch thinner,hardlyextendingbeyondthetipofmedianlobeandnotbearingteethon theinnerside at base. 6 7 Fjgs. 6-7.
