A new beginning. And things will change.” -Taylor Swift Happy New Year! As we ended last year, we begin the new, with change. As 2016 changes into 2017, we have a new beginning. A fresh opportunity to do and accomplish something new or different. Or, 2017 may afford us the opportunity to check something off of our bucket list. The new may also present us with the chance to evaluate our life and our situations to see if some needs to change. Life’s too short, to waste any time or opportunities. We have three coin shows in the time frame that this issue encom¬ passes. Grand Island in January, Nebraska City in February and Lin¬ coln Coin Club in March. All in all, a busy and active time for our hobby in what is usually considered the “dead" of winter. Information on all those shows can be found in The Journal. Nebraska City Coin Club suffered a loss this past December when their show chairman, Tim Boerner, passed away on December 4th. In dealing with that loss, the club members realized that their show must go on, and so they have appointed a new show chairman... er...person. Sue Stitch has taken over those duties and her contact information can be found on page 9. Don't forget that 2017 is Nebraska's Sesquicentennial! If you have a celebration or any other event or activity that you would like to share with the collectors of Nebraska, let us know and we will share the in¬ formation with the members of the NNA. Hey, it’s an event 150 years in the making. Let’s make the best of it!! Still no word on the Boys Town Commemoratives due to be released this year. If anyone hears anything about any programs or events planned around the Boys Town Commemorative coins, please let us 2 Nebraska Numismatic Association Journal Jan / Feb / March 2017 know. We are privileged to share another of Jim McKee's wonderful articles. This one is about Ma Barker and her gang invading Nebraska. Sounds scary, right? Well, Jim's article begins on page 12 and you’ll have to see for yourself just how scary Ma Barker was. 1 also have some personal news to pass along. 1 have been encour¬ aged by many friends in the hobby to run for the ANA board of Gov¬ ernors. So, I will be placing my hat into that ring this spring. It is a long shot for a guy from Nebraska to win a seat on such an august body, but I would like to give it a shot. I would also like to remind everyone that if your name label is high¬ lighted in yellow it is time to renew. A renewal information can be found on the inside back cover. In closing 1 would like to say thanks to our many and faithful advertis¬ ers. Their support of the NNA helps us produce and mail the Journal. So please, say thanks to them by stopping by their table at a show, giving them a call or stopping in their shop. And let them know to too appreciate their support of the NNA. As some of you may know I like art nouveau medals. I came across this one recent¬ ly and found it appropriate. It is inscribed, “To the Fu¬ ture”. So, here’s to the future and to all that it holds. -tAick 3 Nebraska Numismatic Association Joumol Jan / Feb / March 2017 MARSHALL S COIN SHOP THE PENNY MERCHANT Established 1958 CELEBRATING 59 YEARS IN BUSINESS!!
