William Byrd Powell, commonly known as "Willied B." to friends and colleagues, has been employed by Delta State University for 25 years. Bill worked in the department of Biological Sciences as a lab instructor and photographer during the first half of of his career, and spent the last halfworking diligently as photographer, yearbook advisor, and instructor in the Office of Public Information. As quoted in a Delta Statement article in 1998 by Jody Correro, "Bill was an artiste in the truest manner. He not only could take a great photograph, but he could take it at the right time, with the proper exposure to create the affect that the photo "said" it all. His outstanding campus building photos have been used by professionals in architectural publications, telephone directory covers, in airport and chamber of commerce offices." As editor of the Broom for three consecutive years, I was lucky enough to work closely with Bill Powell. He was the one who took the great photographs that has made DSU's yearbook what it is today. I am honored to have known Bill Powell and his family, Debbie, Bo, and Ben. We wish them the best of luck in the future! G Graduation is one ofthe most important days ofour lives, a day that we strive to reach throughout our college careers. It is a happy time, a time for family and friends, and it is a sad time, one ofgoodbyes and R old times remembered. Many Delta State graduates further their educations in medical schools or graduate programs all across the nation, while others join the workforce and begin their careers. A Graduation can cause questions to be raised like, "When will I find a job?" or "Can I make it on my own?". Nevertheless, Delta State D graduates will all have one thing in common - a wonderful place in the MS heart ofthe delta that they will always be able to call home.
