Preface The Adult Hip—Master Case Series and Techniques is an essential textbook for those seeking to immerse themselves in the treatment methodologies of specific hip surgical problems. My vision was to create a “virtual travelling hip fellow- ship” around the world, inviting the reader to enter operating theatres with over 150 distinguished surgeons from every continent, to observe and discuss the crucial learning points of special hip surgical cases from beginning to end. This book is written by international experts in a clinical and surgical per- spective, which focuses specifically on the technical tips and tricks of hip surgery. It is an anthology of the invaluable experiences of world-renowned senior surgeons in a quest to promote and stratify a methodological approach to treating hip problems. The top surgeons of our time, from Europe, USA, South America, Canada, Asia, Japan and Australia, who perform surgery based on evidence, present 173 unique surgical cases and 40 evidence-based literature reviews which amalgamate the current evidence and practice, with more than 650 illustra- tions over 730 pages. Presented in a user-friendly manner, each case is displayed in the same format throughout, allowing the reader to easily find, learn from and compare cases, including crucial references. The reader is guided from the clinical evaluation and pre-operative planning, through to the decision-making pro- cess, the surgical procedure and the outcome. A set of critical questions to the surgeon are tackled at the end, further elucidating the essential points based on current evidence. The Adult Hip—Master Case Series and Techniques is divided into six sec- tions, namely conservative hip surgery, primary, complex primary, hip revision arthroplasty acetabulum and femur and Navigation and VR Software in Joint Reconstruction. It is an invaluable asset for any specialist hip surgeon as well as surgeons in training who are interested in the hip and require both a didactic reference and a complete review of the management of special hip pathologies. My ambition is that this book will be the founding edition of a long-term publishing legacy to be delivered to the forthcoming generations of hip sur- geons as a forum of international communication and exchange of knowledge in hip surgery.
