Index Studies in Religion / Sciences Religieuses Volumes 1-20 (1971-1991) Compiled by / Fait par BARRY W. HENAUT under the supervision of / sous la direction de PETER RICHARDSON Introduction Four indexes follow: an index of editorials, an author index, a key-word index and an index of books reviewed. The book review index lists author or authors of the volumes reviewed without distinguishing between “reviews of books” and “book notes.” The author index includes all authors of articles as indicated in the main title, including authors of responses to articles. The key-word index is somewhat more complicated. For each article an average of three key words has been identified —the range is actually from one to five — and each of these key words has been made an index entry by altering the form of the article title so that the key word being indexed always appears first. The end of the title is indicated by a period, so that by reading from the period one can stitch together the original form of the title. Because of the constraints of time and space book reviewers were not indexed. This undervalues the extremely important work of reviewing books and we apologize to the journal’s many reviewers for this lacuna. Occasionally — mostly in variations in initials or spelling out of first names — we have made the different forms of names agree so as to reduce the confusion for subsequent bibliographers or researchers. Generally speaking we preferred the later form, occasionally we preferred a fuller form. When the differences involved a last name we allowed the variations to stand. Peter Richardson Managing Editor Editorials / Editoriaux CAMPBELL, MICHELM.
