Later known asToronto Bible College, it merged with London Bible Institute (established in 1935 and later known as London College of Bible and Missions) in 1968to become Ontario Bible College. The Seminarywas established in 1976. In 1998, the nameTyndale wasassumed, honouring the heritage ofthe Fatherofthe English Bible, William Tyndale (1494-1536). Tyndale was an English reformerwho studied and translated the Scriptures with a passion forthe Christian faith and a willingness to follow God no matter the cost. He is a model for scholarship, faith, and vision. In 2003, Tyndalewas accorded university college status bythe provincial government. In 2007, Tyndale received approval from the Ontario Ministry ofTraining, Colleges and Universities and from the Ontario College ofTeachers to offera Bachelor of Education program. The Seminary programs are accredited byThe Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS). In 2007, Tyndale purchased the Morrow Park propertyfrom the Sisters of St. Joseph ofToronto. Tyndale is an evangelical, transdenominational school with over 1,200 students and more than 9,000 alumni. She is an ordained ministerwith a background in social work and cross-cultural missions. Afounding memberof the Philip Aziz Centre, Rev. Salminen presently serves as its Executive Director. The Philip Aziz Centre is a community-based hospice program that provides practical, emotional and spiritual supportto persons living with AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, in the comfort oftheir own home. Much of her hospice work involves research, community networking and consultation, program development, recruitment and training of staff and volunteers, pastoral and spiritual care, AIDS and hospice education among the faith community, and most recently, establishing a residential pediatric hospice in Toronto. Rev. Salminen believes thatthe greatest expression of our love for God is unconditionally loving our neighbour. "We may differ in culture, ethnicity, values, beliefs, faith, giftings, social/economic status, gender, education and geography, but we are similar in our universal desire to be loved, accepted, belong and knowour lives have significance, purpose and value.
