PREPARED BY H. E. ROGERS, Statistical Secretary of the General Conference. PUBLISHED BY REVIEW AND HERALD PUBLISHING ASSOCIATION WASHINGTON, D. C. THE MASTER BIDS THEE. Go where the needs are great, -and sow; Scatter the seed God bids thee bear. 'Tis• not that thou must •see and know How great a yield He'll garner there, Or how that seed can grow In soil so long unfructified — Thy mission is to sow. The soil is His, and His the seed, The early and the latter rain. Then speed Thee to that field — the field in need. They've waited long in woe; So long in need, so low,. denied, Though Christ so long, so long, has bid thee go. Sow where the needs are great; the seed Is in the keeping of thy God. Thy very. life may fill some need If it but show His love abroad, Or soothe some aching heart, Long tossed on life's uncharted sea, Or heal some biting smart — Then art thou His, thy life His seed, And He will sow it where the need Is greatest. Yield, and let him lead To field beyond the sea, To Afric, Ind, or far Cathay — To whatsoever land has need of thee. And when the harvest comes, that field Where hard the labor was and long May cause thee wonder by its yield Of precious fruit, and stir to song Of gladness all thy soul. Then fret thou not — in God's own time The earnest or the whole Shall rise where thou didst sow thy seed. Then hie thee thither with all speed To needy lands where'er He lead; And there, in His control, Or here, if that thy mission be, Sow and be sown, till God shall reap the whole. - C. M. Snow. PREFACE. At the close of 1914, so far as reports in hand indicated, this work was organized in the 'manner shown by • the following pages. These directories give the boundaries comprising the territorial lines of each conference and mission, as well as the different classes of laborers con- nected therewith. The organization of this work as reported to the time allowed to prepare this report, is arranged as follows: — Division Conferences (cid:9) 2 Division Mission (cid:9) 1 Union Conferences (cid:9) 26 Union Missions (cid:9) 2 Conferences (cid:9) 128 Mission fields (cid:9) 116 Educational Institutions (cid:9) 70 Publishing houses and branches (cid:9) 37 Periodicals (cid:9) 130 Languages in which publications are issued (cid:9) 87 Sanitariums (cid:9) 33 Treatment Rooms (cid:9) 9 Food Factories and Cafes (cid:9) 22 In addition to the features usually presented in this series, the present issue gives a summary, prepared especially for this publication by those in charge of the work in each division or union conference, in which is set fOrth in concise form a record of the work accomplished during the past year, throughout the entire field. In this survey there is shown the standing attained in each field, the plans and policies being pursued for the development of the work, as well as the results realized. This review indicates that we have work in progress over a wide range of territory,— from Vladivostock to Patagonia, from Madagascar via Tanganyika, Titicaca, cannibal Solomon Islands, to West China, North India, and on to Bagdad, Tiflis, and Omsk. In all these places we have companies of believers associated together for the extension of this cause. That this work is becoming more and more cosmopolitan is evidenced by references made herein to such languages and peoples as Cebuan, Panayan, Tagalog, Chikwaya, Kisubuma, Chasu, Suaheli, Hindi, Timnis, Kaffirs, Rarotongan, Icelandic, Battak, Karen, and Arabic. Pub- lications are now issued in eighty-seven languages, an increase of twelve during the year, and over twenty other languages are used orally in the proclamation of this message. This fact alone indicates great ac- tivity and earnestness on the part of those laboring in these various fields. Directories will be found on the following pages: — Conferences (cid:9) 5 Institutions (cid:9) 161 Ministerial Directory (cid:9) 212 Survey of the Fields (cid:9) 241 Statistical Summary (cid:9) 280 • For reference to any conference, mission, or institution, see the Index, page 297.
