General Comments 1. On the 29th of every Coptic month, the church celebrates three major feasts of the Lord: Annunciation, Nativity, and Resurrection. The reason is that the Annunciation falls on 29th of Baramhat, the Nativity (Christmas) falls on 29th of Kiahk, and the Resurrection (Easter) was actually on 29th of Baramhat in the year of His passion. Therefore, the church designated the 29th of every Coptic month (except for the months of Toba and Amshir) to be a commemoration of these feasts. 2. The months of Toba and Amshir are not celebrated because they fall outside of the period between the annunciation and birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, i.e. outside the period of the Virgin’s conception. Another view says that these two months represent the law and the Prophets of the Old Testament. 3. The hymns for these days are chanted in the festive tune. The Psalms of the third and sixth hours only are prayed at the beginning of the Liturgy. The readings on those days should remain the same as they are written in the Katamaros. They should not be substituted with the readings of the 29th of Baramhat, as some think, except if that day happens to be the fifth Sunday of the month. B. Vespers Praises 1. The praises are prayed as usual with the addition of the appropriate Psali (Adam or Watos) for the feast, before the Psali of the day. 2. The exposition for the feast of the Annunciation is read before the “Ending of the Theotokia”. C. Vespers and Matins Prayers The service is prayed as usual with the addition of the following: 1. The service is prayed in the festive tune. 2. The verses for the feasts of Annunciation, Nativity, and Resurrection are added in the Verses of Cymbal. 3. The doxologies for the feasts of Annunciation, Nativity, and Resurrection are chanted. 4. The Concluding Hymn is chanted. D. Midnight Praises The praises are prayed as usual with the addition of the following: 1. Tenoueh `ncwk, the commemoration of the saints and the doxologies are chanted in the festive tune. 2. The doxologies for the feasts of Annunciation, Nativity, and Resurrection are chanted. 3. The appropriate Psali (Adam or Watos) for the feast is chanted before the Psali of the day. 4. The Antiphonarium (Dephnar) is read. 5 E. The Liturgy The service is prayed as usual with the following observations: 1. The hymns “Allyloui`a vai pe pi” (Alleluia. This is the day) and the hymn “Tai soury” are chanted. 2. The hymn of intercession is chanted. 3. The response to the Praxis for the Annunciation, Nativity, and Resurrection are is chanted. 4. The response to the Psalm and Gospel are chanted. 5. The fraction for the feasts of the Lord is prayed. 6. The response to Psalm 150 is the group of all three verses for Annunciation, Nativity and Resurrection, chanted in turns. 7. The Concluding Hymn is chanted. 6 Readings for the 29th Day of Each Coptic Month P[oic rek nivyou`i `amou `epecyt@ O Lord, bow Your ،لزناو تاومسلا ئطأط براي heavens and come down. كدي لسرإ ،نخدتف لابجلا سملإ [inem nitwou ouoh marouses Touch the mountains and .ايوليلله .ىنجنو ينذقنإ ولعلا نم they shall smoke.
