I have notattemptedtoprovide a comprehensive descriptionof the law; this has already been done, mostnotably inEngland by Professor Ronnie MacKay. Nor have I sought to provide detailed reviews of the other specialist areasuponwhichIhavetouched.Ihopethat, asaresult, thetrailoftheargument remains visible. My thanks are due also to Professor John Gunn of the Department of Forensic Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry and Dr Paul Bowden of the Maudsley Hospital.
