Rio 2016 has secured over 5,800 rooms in hotels and newly constructed media villages to accommodate the Olympic accredited press. This accommodation guide is written specifically for members of the written and photographic press and non- rights holding broadcasters with E- category accreditation. The guide is designed to provide as much information as needed for press to secure the most suited and conveniently located accommodation for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Please read this guide thoroughly and complete the required steps by the stated deadlines. It is vital that the timeline is followed to ensure that an efficient press accommodation allocation can be made. Key points to keep in mind: • You can start making your top 3 choices in 1 December 2014; the deadline is 31 May 2015 • Payment can be made with Visa credit card • There will be no minimum stay period Please note that if there will be any change in the hotel information, updates will be posted on the Press Operations extranet at: https://rioexchange.rio2016.com. There will be a separate Press Accommodation Guide for the Paralympic Games that will be published in August 2015. Study this Press Accommodation Guide, giving particular attention to the hotel and media village descriptions and the section ‘Press accommodation rates and reservation procedures’; 2. Submit your top three accommodation choices form by the deadline of 31 May 2015 (you can already submit your request from 1 December 2014 onwards). Requests made after the deadline may be considered but will be dependent on room availability; 3. By the end of June 2015 Press Operations will send the confirmed allocations, along with the electronic link to access the Rio 2016 Accommodation Reservation System; 4. Follow the instructions on the system to reserve your room(s), after careful consideration of the dates and the number of rooms and nights you will need. The deadline to accept the Terms & Conditions and make your reservation is 30 June 2015; 5. Please note that you will not be able to reserve more rooms than the number of accreditations awarded to your press organisation; 6. The games nights are from 22 July to 26 August 2016. Media villages will be available from 5 July 2016. If you need hotel rooms before 22 July 2016, please email Press Operations at [email protected]; 7. A 50 per cent deposit is due by 31 July 2015. This is for amounts greater than USD 3,500 (amounts lower than USD 3,500 must be paid in full by this date). When you make your accommodation reservation, you will be given the following options: • Request to be invoiced to pay the 50 per cent deposit by wire transfer. Payment must be received by Rio 2016 by the deadline of 31 July 2015. • Pay the 50 per cent deposit online immediately with Visa credit card. • Defer the 50 per cent deposit online with Visa credit card for any time prior to the deadline of 31 July 2015. • Pay 100 per cent online immediately with Visa credit card; 8. The first deposit must be paid by 31 July 2015 or you will lose your reservation; and you must pay the second (final) payment by 29 February 2016 or you will lose your reservation and your 50 percent deposit. They are spread over four Olympic clusters: Barra, Copacabana, Deodoro and Maracanã. In addition, some football events will take place outside Rio, in the co-host Olympic cities. Press accommodation will be based in the four clusters of the Olympic Games and it offers a combination of press hotels, as well as newly constructed media villages close to Olympic Park and an existing media village in Deodoro. In the Copacabana, Barra and Maracanã clusters, Rio 2016 has identified two, three and four star hotels. Additionally press have been allocated rooms in the Barra and Deodoro media villages, which offer services and facilities equivalent to a three star hotel. There will be a dedicated Media Transport system (TM) that will provide transport between the press accommodation sites and the Olympic venues. Deodoro RIO DE JANEIRO Maracanã Copacabana Barra Press accommodation will be based in the four clusters 6 PRESS ACCOMMODATION GUIDE - OCTOBER 2014 2.1 THE OLYMPIC CLUSTERS Barra The Barra cluster is in the most recently urbanised area of Rio – Barra da Tijuca, which is often simply referred to as Barra. Located in the southwest of Rio, the area has many new shopping centres, restaurants and cinemas and boasts one of the best beaches in Rio. In addition to hotels, Barra will have three newly constructed media villages. Copacabana The Copacabana cluster is one of Rio de Janeiro's most famous neighbourhoods, and is defined by its 4km-long crescent-shaped beach. It is here that the Beach Volleyball Arena will be located. The open water swimming and triathlon events will be held in the waters and land around Fort Copacabana at the southern end of the beach. It includes two of Rio's most famous landmarks: the Maracanã stadium, which will stage the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the final stages of the football tournament, and Sambódromo, the home of the carnival parade that will host the Olympic marathon and archery events. Deodoro The Deodoro cluster is based in the outer west zone of Rio de Janeiro. The region is home to Brazil’s biggest barracks and has the highest concentration of military personnel in Latin America. Surrounded by green areas and hillside, Deodoro has the second largest concentration of competition venues during the Rio 2016 Games, promising a vibrant mix of traditional and newer sports.
