It is also known from the southem part of Champasak Prov泊ce,Laos; Stung Treng and Kompo曲 Chenang Provinces,C ambodia; and in Dong Nai Province,n orth of and close to Saigon in Viet Nam. All of the collections noted from Cambodia and Laos are from the Mekong River area. CRAm (1932) indicated that出isspecies,a ccording to his generic concepts of Hedyotis and Oldenlandia,wo uld be included in the former. He did not make ar ecombination since he,a pparently,d id not examine any relevant material. Oldenlandia and Hedyotis were formerly separated on the fine and often conflicting details of the fruiting calyx,m ode of dehiscence,a nd seed mo叩hology.Various authors have either maintained the two genera or united them under Hedyotis. FuKUOKA (1970) combined Oldenlandia with Hedyotis following BACKER & BAKHUIZEN V.D. B悶NKin the Flora 01 Java (1965) who were the first to do so in regional floras for Asia. PπARD (1922) provides al ong and detailed description for血isspecies which is based on unpublished notes by Pierre. It is as lender,a nnual,e rect,g labrous herb with light green,qu adrangular stems. The leaves are in whorls of three (temate),se ssile,wi th linear, light green blades with revolute m紅gins, mostly 15-18 x1 m m( when世y).Thet erminal cymes have many 4-merous,re gul釘 flowersC; 5m ml ong.百leinflorescence axes and calyx range from white-light greenish to green,c orollas white-lilac outside and white inside,a nthers pu甲le,and the stigmasぽewhite to purple. MAXWELL village,K hong Chiam District,U bon Rachatani Province-the only material of this very interesting and distinct speci that1h ave examined. It is locally known as “dtong hang" 回 (例制LL'VI\I)and is common.百lehabitat is similar to that of Hedyotis bahaii Maxw.,bu t with sandy soil at least 30 cm deep (Fig. 2). Specimens are in CMU,B KF,a nd L. Both species of Hedyotis discussed here are similar in having as lender basic habit; linear,s essile leaves with revolute margins,a nd cymose inflorescences with numerous flowers c. 5m ml ong. The collecting area should be thoroughly sampled throughout the year since it may have more unusual or rare plants growing there. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS 1w ould like to thank Martin Greijm s,formerly from the Silvicultural Research 叩 Division,Ro yal Forest Department,B angkok for not only giving all of his collections from the Ubon Rachatani Gene Conservation Station to me for identification,b ut also for his cooperation in providing information about Bahai village and the collecting habitat. Dr. J. F. Veldkamp,N ational Herbarium of Netherlands at Leiden is thanked,a s always,f or his continued support and correction of my Latin diagnosis. Dr. Hugh Tan, National University of Singapore,pr ovided some background information about the historical aspects of Oldenlandia and Hedyotis,fo r which 1a mv ery grateful. Rungtiwa Panyayod is thanked for typing the final version of the manuscript in computerized format. REFERENCES BACKER,C. A.,A ND R. C. BAKHUIZ聞 VANDEN BRINK JR. 1965. Flora 01 Java II,2 84-288.
