Welcome to Cadence, Texas – a small country town filled with homegrown citizens, old-school values, and murder. Lots of murder.
Earlier this year, Evangeline (Evan) Walker moved back home to small-town Cadence after her daddy got sick. It’s been three short months since he passed and she’s still here, taking care of her mother--too guilty to get back to her prestigious pastry chef position she left in Houston.
One October morning, Evan arrives at Pearl Dubois’s estate for their long-standing morning coffee meeting only to find her elderly friend dead at the foot of the massive stairs, and just like that she’s back to grieving the loss of a loved one.
With a keen eye and a penchant for rooting for the underdog, Evan realizes the way in which Pearl died left a few questions to be answered. Questions the current Sheriff and town doctor have no interest in pursuing. In fact, they would rather the case be closed immediately and don’t mind resorting to good ol’ boy tactics in order to make sure that happens.
When Evan is called to the Estate by Pearl’s attorney, she’s dumbfounded when presented the deed to the home and informed she must turn it into a Bed, Breakfast, and Bakery, as per Pearl’s last wishes. The reading of Pearl’s Trust goes awry when Pearl’s own daughter is left a paltry sum as an inheritance.
Murder on Main Street, the very first in the Evan Walker cozy mystery series, introduces you to the quirky citizens of Cadence, TX—where gossip, town festivals, and old rivalries is the norm. Evan bakes up a storm in this feel-good mystery.
Get to know Crumpet the Pug and fallen Deputy Sheriff Matt Kettering as Evan traverses the quaint, albeit dangerous world, of life in small-town Texas.
