This year, the government did away with almost 20 different sales taxes and compliance regimes, and replaced them with one universal tax called General Sales Tax (GST)--driven and managed by one computer network called GSTN. In China, Alibaba launched the Hema retail stores, combining mobile app, electronic pay, and data sciences to realize an oxymoron--the hyper-local business. In US, the quintessential American experience of driving a car is being challenged, first through Uber and now through the driverless car. As recently as a few years ago, Adobe Flash content was ubiquitous on web properties, including learning content, across the world. Recently, Adobe announced the end of life of Adobe Flash sometime in 2020, meaning that most of the Flash- based learning content now needs to be republished in HTML5. Machines and algorithms have suddenly sneaked up and are all around us. But the remarkable thing is that most countries continue to add people to their workforce. Young people trained in modern skills or older generation having reskilled themselves are joining to manage and shape the new reality. The cycle of skilling and reskilling, so much at the core of human resilience, is rotating faster than ever in living memory. People across all demographics, races, and geographies are embracing learning, formally as well as informally. My mother at 75 is learning how to use mobile apps to make payments, Chinese checkout tellers are learning the complexity of managing digital inventory, and US commuters are learning to catch up on their office work on their devices, being driven to work by Uber, or an algorithm! Learning is being delivered digitally, primarily through mobile devices, often on the job, and is increasingly becoming user generated. Adobe Captivate 2017, as the leader in the space of eLearning authoring tools, continues to push the boundaries of WYSIWYG authoring across devices, while dovetailing productivity with power. Both are important to keep up with the increasing demand for digital learning, especially on mobile, as millennials enter the workforce. Dr. Pooja Jaisingh and Damien Bruyndonckx, two of the most recognizable and respected names in the field of eLearning, have written an excellent book that not only provides that extra oomph! to power users but also helps democratize eLearning authoring by lowering the learning curve for the new entrants in this space. The autoresponsive capabilities in Captivate 2017 spectacularly solve the difficult design and productivity problems of authoring once and publishing across many form factors. However, it also requires a slight change in the design and mindset of content authoring. I am glad to note that the authors have recognized the importance of the problem and opportunity of the capability in Captivate 2017, and have given this topic great importance in their planning of this book. This book is an essential tool in the chest of tools for anyone in the business of generating compelling eLearning content--from professionals to SMEs. Happy learning! Tridib Roy Chowdhury Sr. Director and G.M. Adobe Systems
