Professor Chaer played a pioneering and active role in the early stages and latter developmentsofresearchactivitiesintheoreticalchemistry in Brazil. As part of this commemoration, an international scientificmeetingalsotookplaceinRiodeJaneiro,Brazil, in the week of June 11–13, 2012. This special volume containsaselectedsampleofcontributionsfromhisformer students, colleagues, and collaborators. After successfully completing his doctorate at Caltech under the supervision of Professor William A.
