A special thanks goes out to the developers of those apps. The authors would also like to thank Kevin Harreld for accepting the proposal for this book and believing that three authors could come together to put together such a book. They would also like to extend kindest regards and thanks to Carole Jelen, the literary agent who not only brought the three authors together, but who also helped design the concept of the book. Last but not least, special thanks goes to Cathleen Small, whose knowledge of the iPhone comes firsthand and whose editorial skills are second to none. Finally, the authors would like to thank Danielle Sipple, who did a wonderful job gathering photos for this project. Kris Krugis a fashion, music, and portrait photographer, a technologist, and an author based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. He is owner Static Photography, a photography studio in Vancouver, BC. He is also a teacher and consultant for new media and the Internet. Krug brands himself as a techartist, quasi-sage, cyberpunk anti-hero from the future. For three years, he was the editor-in- chief of the online magazine *spark, a culture and technology monthly with a philosophical bent. He was the coauthor of BitTorrent for Dummies(Wiley, 2005). As a photographer, his photos have been published in National Geographic, Rolling Stone, Business Week, Financial Times, USA Today, LA Times, PBS, and many other online and print publications. vi ■ About the Authors Constantly challenging himself by shooting diverse subjects, from emerging rock bands to dot- com execs, Kris uses his engaging personality to break down the barriers between lens and sub- ject. He treats each person with a gentle hand, allowing subjects to comfortably express themselves. Combined with a calculating eye (and a penchant for cross-processing), the result is a capture of people’s truest essence—a story of their life in tableau as unabashed artistic docu- mentation, whether the subject is a man out in front of his downtown East Side apartment, a fashion model, or a farmer in the back hills of China. Kris is a fervent evangelist for open culture and creative commons licensing and frequently speaks at conferences and in the media about the blurring lines between pro and amateur, shift- ing copyright standards, and using technology to promote and share artistic work. Kris realizes art isn’t created in a vacuum and a vibrant community is key for culture to flourish. With this in mind, he organizes photo walks and workshops for newbies and veterans alike to encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration. Dubbed the “Frasier of the Cubicles” by the San Francisco Chronicle, Dr. Greg Ketchumis a former clinical psychologist turned CEO and media workplace and executive coach. He pre- sides over an executive talent firm, providing coaching for executives and Fortune 500 compa- nies. A unique mix of psychology and coaching expertise gives Dr. Greg a great understanding of people and what it takes for career success. Combined with his keen insight into today’s workplace and infused with his trademark quick wit, Dr. Greg challenges his clients to reach for career success on their own terms—and to have a good time doing it. Dr. Greg’s interest in photography stretches back to his days as a boy taking pictures on his bicy- cle with his Kodak Brownie Instamatic. He has always loved the visual arts, including photogra- phy, cinematography, painting, and architecture. When he was a teenager, he built his own darkroom in the family garage and began developing and printing his own black-and-white pho- tographs. In college, he was a photography major before moving on to psychology; but despite that move, Dr. Greg always has had his camera nearby. Having children opened up an entirely new world of photography for him as he spent many hours taking pictures of his children. He loves working with film in the 35mm format and only reluctantly moved into the world of digital photography, but once he made the move, he began to see the amazing photographs that could be created in the digital format. With the introduction of the iPhone and photography applications for it, Dr. Greg’s creativity has been unleashed in a way that was not possible work- ing only with film. He loves the idea that having his iPhone and photography applications is like having a virtual darkroom in his pocket. Although he has been a photographer his entire life, this is his first book of photography. About the Authors ■ vii Dr. Greg created the Coach-on-Demand Series Podcasts®, which are a revolutionary new way for companies to provide highly targeted self-directed learning and development modules for their employees. During his graduate studies, he was awarded a California State Fellowship.
