Whether you’re bringing home a hot new date or putting the passion back into a decades-old marriage, there’s a position for you. And, with 365 positions, you can go for a whole glorious year without repeating yourself – or, if you have sex once a week, for seven years. 6 All the positions on the following pages are derived from the Kama Sutra or other erotic classics. Some of them will be very familiar – in fact you probably did them last night – while others will make you screw up your face with incredulity. But rather than screwing up your face, try screwing your lover instead. If it all goes wrong (she falls off/his arms buckle/her leg goes dead), just enjoy sex for its playful absurdity. Enjoy the ride not just the destination. As well as trying out these wild and wonderful sex positions, impress your lover by name-dropping the classic erotic texts from which they originate. 7 The Kama Sutra The Kama Sutra was written in ancient India by Vatsyayana Malanaga. He reveals not only the best positions in which to have sex, but also how to embrace, kiss, and even bite. He describes how a room should be prepared for lovemaking and the etiquette two lovers should employ. Kama Sutra sex tip: “Put his whole lingam (penis) into your mouth and press it to the very end as if you are going to swallow it.” 8 The Ananga Ranga This was written in 15th-century India by Kalyana Malla. Unlike the Kama Sutra, which was intended for all lovers, the Ananga Ranga speaks directly to husbands and wives. Its core message is to keep sex varied and adventurous so that husband and wife aren’t tempted to stray into “polygamy, adultery, and every other manner of vice”. Ananga Ranga sex tip: “To perfect her husband’s pleasure, a wife should constrict her yoni (vagina) so it holds the lingam (penis) tight.” 9
