The journal publishes refereed articles, including research reports, on a variety of topics concerning the development of health care both in hospitals and in the community. Articles present a world-wide picture of the profession, reporting on advancements in individual countries as well as on an international scale. The journal thus makes a contribution to developments in nursing practice, in the organization of nursing services, in nursing education and in research thinking. The Editor-in-Chief welcomes the submission of papers for editorial consideration. While it is expected that the majority of contributions will be received from members of the nursing profession, any paper of direct relevance to nursing will be given due consideration. As terminology varies from country to country, the term ‘nursing’ is used to mean nursing and midwifery in their generic sense; that is, covering the broad range of professional activities both in hospital and in the community. The Editor-in-Chief also welcomes correspondence, including, but not restricted to, comments on published papers, together with brief research notes and conference reports.
