During the past decades, many works have been done in optimization design and related many different fields. The 2010 International Conference on optimization design (ICOD 2010) will provide a high level international platform for worldwide researchers and engineers to exchange their latest research results in the emergent field of optimization design. We believe this great event will greatly enlighten the academia as well as the industry, accompanied with many new ideas and creative resolutions to optimization design and related topics. On behalf of the organizing committee, it is our greatest pleasure to welcome you to this great event - the 2010 International Conference on Optimization Design (ICOD 2010) to be held on March 18-20, 2010 in Wuhan, China. This year, ICOD 2010 attracts broad interest throughout the world, with more than 369 submissions through email. After strictly peer reviewing, only 99 papers were selected as final papers. The desire for high quality is also shown by the distinguished invited speaker who will share their insights and recent research results with the attendants. As final note, we would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the individuals who have contributed to this conference, including authors, the reviewers and all the special sessions’ organizers. We would like to thank the program chairs, organization staff, and the members of the committees for their work. Thanks also go to American Society of Mechanical Engineers Press (ASME) for its great publishing service. And, we especially wish to deliver our special thank to Tara Smith for her wonderful service to this proceeding. It is our great pleasure to have you with us at the conference.
