The most common feature of computer and human is their functional dependency on the software and soul respectively. Consequently, they would become a tool for “social” or “anti-social” conduct by demonstrating or assisting the virtues or vices, is the next commonality between them. The role of human and computer in ethical domain for betterment of society would bring ease and peace while their vicious and detrimental functioning would result into adverse consequences in the society. Go to Home Pa g e | 4 H u man As Co mp ut e r o f Alla h THEME OF PART-II (Learn Computer Technology to Understand the Faith of Islam) Read it First… Allah is the Creator of ‘Mankind’ and ‘human’ is the inventor of ‘Computer’. In many ways man & PC work intimately in similar fashion. By comparing their default functions, customized operations and common features, we can analyze them in the following manner: ► A common Computer Hardware requires Software to function, analogically the human body too installed with the Ruh, as Allah said in the Qur’an; “when I completed His(Adam) moulding and, breathed into him the Ruh (soul). [Qur'an 15:29]” ► The Man in the presence of Ruh is capable to perform actions including virtuous or evil deeds —on similar context, the computer, in the presence of operating software can be used for useful as well as harmful purposes (e.g. committing cyber-crimes; spreading of viruses, worms, vulgarity & profanity etc) ► In case of ‘destiny’, the human has no choices, but in social matters as a consequence of freewill there is a vast list of opportunities and options available __ in PCs the core architecture of computer software and hardware has firm boundaries, the user has no choices to cross the architectural scope of system based on designers’ intent, however a virtually unlimited flexibility is offered by the machine to run and exploit any good or bad software to perform any right or wrong activity [for detail, see Chapter 8.1, 8.2 & 9.5] ► Due to mishandling of PCs or avoiding standard software protection procedures, the software get corrupted or show frequent malfunctioning due to presence of viruses and worms or sometimes due to intervention of hackers/crackers. To cater for such problems, the system requires a protection system to be installed known as antivirus (anti-dots) software. After the installation of antidot, the system still needs to be updated, refreshed & patched regularly and must be scanned according to a schedule __ the Go to Home Pa g e | 5 H u man As Co mp ut e r o f Alla h human being, by default, has to perform virtuous deeds, but implicitly or explicitly the man does not maintain the desired decorum and performs evil deeds and follow the footsteps of satan. To protect the man, the Almighty has offered a hierarchic defensive shield composed of repeated salah (prayer), regular saum (fast) and top antivirus like istighfar (repentance) and Du’a (suplication). Therefore, the man is required to protect and refresh the ‘self’ with righteous activities and scan the soul in silent hours (of night) ► Functions and operations of all computer systems are binary; means either one or zero (at machine level) __ similarly, the Faith (in Allah ) is also binary i.e. Faith is the name of total obedience, and submission to ‘ONE’ Allah and ‘NOT follow Him’ means ‘Zero’ that is why Qur'an said; “O believers enter into Islam completely (and not partially)” [Qur'an 2:208] ► Computer user puts in best effort to keep the computer software(s) operational using various protection and upgradation1 techniques whereas puts in little (or sometimes no) effort to protect the hardware __ on contrary, the human invests in all efforts to make the body (human hardware) healthy and presentable in the society but our social and physical sciences do not offer any mechanism to nourish, protect and purify the Divine software i.e. ‘Soul’. Contrarily, the human pays more attention to care the body as compare to Soul. That is why, the Prophet Muhammadﷺ directed us to strengthen the soul through actions like; not to fill in the bellies too much, eat simple, avoid excessive sleep and wakeup midnight for remembrance (of Allah ) for spiritual attainment. The beneficial stuff for health of soul are good-deeds, God-consciousness, His remembrance [i.e. dhikr(ركِذ)] and obedience. ► Today, we are enjoying online help in banking, education, travelling, guidance on social matters and learning through web surfing using internet __ but we forget online help and guidance of Allah through observance of prayers, du’a (اعد)2 and istikhara (هراختسا)3 1 Common computer users are continuously upgrading OS from Win-95… to Win-10, Office xx to Office 2016, latest browsers and search engines etc. 2 D’ua means asking help from Allah 3 Istikhara means asking guidance (on our day to day problems) from Allah Go to Home Pa g e | 6 H u man As Co mp ut e r o f Alla h ► In the cyber domain today, the biggest I.T. network the world enjoying, is the worldwide web, an interconnectivity of a variety of servers with countless remotely located netizens (web surfers). Consequently, the social media has produced a feel of neighborhood for everyone, as a member of global village, all using a single acceptable set of rules, known as internet protocol (IP) __ Similarly, the human networks exist; individuals, couples, families form basic networks; the regional and world-wide communities, societies made huge networks based on; social, spiritual or economic ties and personal interests. In the same manner, Muslims living in any part of the world, from any sect, tribe or nation; are a part of an “Ummah”, a compact network; and ‘Qur’an and Sunnah’ is a binding force and a single social protocol between them. The Qur’an said; (Allah has joined together, the hearts of the Muslims) “Had you spent all that is on earth, you could not have united their (believers’) hearts.” [Qur'an 8:63] HUMAN COMPUTER Operating Body Ruh/Soul Hardware System  Functioning  Functioning  Purification of  Cleaning of sw soul with Anti-virus  Connectedness  Connectivity with with the Creator Internet (www) Activities of life Applications Go to Home Pa g e | 7 H u man As Co mp ut e r o f Alla h HUMAN as COMPUTER He (Allah) created man. [Qur'an 54:49] The Computer, a 20th century’s invention, is one of the most significant machines, playing a meaningful role in the society in every walk of life. The computer executes any program setting aside its own desire, inspiration and motivation. We can define computer as a programmable machine that manipulates data according to a list of a pre-defined logical instructions with two basic characteristics; (a) it is programmable, and (b) it responds to a pre-defined set of instructions in a well-organized manner within the boundaries of software and hardware. In living species, like certain birds take long flights of thousands of miles on specific paths, due to change of weather twice every year. The perfection of navigation of path exists in these birds due to migratory program installed in the genetic code of the birds that can guide the long and complicated journey to a very young bird, without any prior experience __ Now the question is; who trained baby bird to navigate its path, who teaches baby fish to swim, baby bird to fly, baby aunt to live in an organized society, baby bees to make honey and new borne to search for food __ Certainly this knowledge has been installed in the genetic codes (predefined program) or DNA in living organism. Such knowledge as realization of God (creator) is also pre-installed in the human instinct. Today, the use of computers is common in our society and computer users are well-conversant with its terminologies and functions. I, in this Section, tried to refresh the already known computer and internet knowledge database in the terms of software and hardware and dig out some unique facts which are not very common, and will be useful in coming chapters as well. Go to Home Pa g e | 10 H u man As Co mp ut e r o f Alla h Optimal Performance of Human and Computer depends upon... COMPUTER HUMAN Correct functioing of God fearing in performing Computer Software the activities of Life using algorithms and hardware body and soul The distinction between software and hardware is sometimes confusing because they are so integrally linked. When you purchase a program, you are buying software. But to buy the software, you need to buy the computer (hardware) on which the software is ‘Installed’ and ‘Run’. As the major theme of this book is based on the fact that human is the combination of body and soul same like computer composed of software and hardware therefore it is important to first clearly differentiate between software and hardware. Secondly ‘Human’ is one of the best creations of the Allah, similarly the ‘Computer’ is the one of the best inventions of the human and, of course, a blessing of Allah, as Qur'an said; Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you (both jinns and men) deny? [Qur'an 55:13]
