The SB4200 transmits and receives data at much higher speeds than traditional telephone or ISDN modems. Up to 100 times faster than a phone modem It provides high-speed access to the Internet and other online services. A Universal Serial Bus (USB) port is available for a single-user direct connection to Better!*** USB-equipped computers. The standard Ethernet connection provides network service to single or multiple users. A great choice for Internet access Unlike a telephone modem, the SB4200 is always online. Just open your browser and surf. * Unlike analog phone modems and ISDN, you’re always on, always connected. ** Actual speed will vary. Many network and other factors affect download speeds. *** SURFboard is made by the company with over 50 years of cable TV expertise. X 1 Home Print Exit Introduction Before You Begin Installation Configuration Troubleshooting Legal Top and Front Panel The standby button suspends your Internet service. The six front-panel lights provide information about power, communications, and errors. 1 Item Description 1 Standby Press this switch to disable the Ethernet and USB ports on the Switch SB4200. No data is transmitted or received. Press this switch again 2 to transmit and receive data. The Standby button offers added 3 Internet security. When the standby switch is activated, all other 4 lights turn off. 5 6 2 Power When the light is flashing, startup diagnostics are being performed. 7 LED A solid light indicates the SB4200 is powered on. 3 Receive When the light is flashing, the SB4200 is scanning for a receive LED channel connection. A solid light indicates the channel connection is acquired. 4 Send When the light is flashing, the SB4200 is scanning for the send LED channel connection. A solid light indicates the channel connection is acquired. X 2 Home Print Exit Introduction Before You Begin Installation Configuration Troubleshooting Legal Top and Front Panel Item Description 5 Online When the light is flashing, the SB4200 is scanning for the network LED configuration server connection. A solid light indicates the network 1 connection is acquired. 6 Activity When the light is flashing, the SB4200 is transmitting or receiving data. When the light is off, the SB4200 is not transmitting or 2 receiving data. 3 4 7 Standby After pressing the Standby button on the top of the SB4200, the 5 Standby light turns on indicating the Ethernet and USB ports are 6 disabled (not receiving or transmitting data). Internet service is 7 interrupted until the Standby button is pressed again. The Standby button offers added Internet security. Item Description 1 LINK/ACT When the light is on, the Ethernet connection is available. A blinking light indicates data is being transferred. 2 This port is the Ethernet connector that transfers data to and from 1 2 your computer. 3 4 3 100 The light is on when a 100Base-T link is established and off when a 5 10Base-T link is established. 6 4 USB This port provides a direct connection to USB equipped computers. 5 (cid:127) This is the recessed reset button. 6 CABLE This port transfers data to and from the service provider. 7 POWER This connector provides power to the SB4200. 7 X 4 Home Print Exit Introduction Before You Begin Installation Configuration Troubleshooting Legal Before You Begin Before you begin the installation, check that you have: Power cord Item Description Power cord Required for connecting the SB4200 to the AC 10/100Base-T electrical outlet. shielded Ethernet cable One 10/100Base-T Required for connecting to the Ethernet port. shielded Ethernet cable USB cable One USB cable Required for connecting to the USB port. SB4200 User Guide Contains the User Guide and USB drivers necessary CD-ROM for connecting to USB port. SB4200 User Guide You need to purchase a 75-ohm coaxial cable with F-type connectors for connecting CD-ROM your SB4200 to the nearest cable outlet. If you have a TV attached to the cable outlet, you may need a 5-900 MHz splitter to use both the TV and the SB4200.
