Its scope will include the determinants of health and its definition and valuation, as well as the demand for and supply of health care; planning and market mechanisms for achieving equilibrium; micro-economic eval- uation of individual procedures and treatments; and evaluation of the performance of health-care systems in terms of equity and allocative efficiency. Editorials and book reviews will be regular features. Occasionally commissioned authoritative reviews will be published, special issues will bring together contributions on a single topic, and a debate section will facilitate rapid exchange of views on topical issues. Contributions related to problems in both developed and developing countries are welcome.
