The lending of AV items is administered by the Alberta Labour Information Services Branch. The term "film" as used in the text below, refers to all AV items regardless of format (i.e. 16 mm film, VHS, 3/4" video tape or slides.) TOPICS AVAILABLE Arson Fire Chemistry Fire Prevention bums and burn prevention case studies children's films code enforcement home, hospital and industrial fire prevention Fire Research Fire Suppression apparatus and equipment extinguishers and sprinklers fire department management flammable liquid and gas firefighting strategy and tactics water application HOW TO ORDER ► By telephone (no collect calls please) use the RITE Network: Ask for the Audio-Visual Technician at 427-8533 (8:15 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.) ► By fax at 422-5070 ► In writing or in person: Alberta Labour Information Services Branch 3rd Floor, 10808 - 99 Avenue Edmonton, Alberta T5K 0G5 LOAN POLICY ► Films may be borrowed free of charge. ► Films may be ordered up to six (6) months in advance. ► The loan period is two (2) weeks, including shipping time. ► Films must be in the Branch on the due date. ► Longer loan periods may be arranged at the time of booking. ► Contact the AV Technician if f ilms will be returned late, or if a booking is to be cancelled. ► Because of their popularity some films may not always be available. The AV Technician will be pleased to suggest suitable alternatives. * Fire Prevention Branch staff have priority use on films and on rare occasions may "bump" a reservation. SHIPPING ► CLIENTS ARE REQUIRED TO PAY ALL SHIPPING CHARGES. ► Edmonton and area clients may pick up and return materials to the Branch, or use a courier service. ► Outside of the Edmonton area, films will be shipped bv courier or bv bus. ► Films must be returned by the same method used for delivery. ► All films must be rewound and returned in the original case or padded envelopes supplied by the Branch. ► Please use the supplied mailing label when returning materials. LOSS OR DAMAGE ► The name of the individual requesting materials is our contact person. ► Clients are responsible for any loss, delay or damage of the materials. I ► If an hern is lost In transit, the client will be charged the replacement cost unless proof is supplied that the Item was returned (i.e. a transit waybill). ► In the event of minor damage, attach a note to the film stating the type and location of the damage. ► Incidents of more severe damage will be dealt with individually. The client may be responsible for the cost of repair or replacement. RESTRICTIONS ► Films borrowed are protected by copyright and cannot be duplicated, televised, transformed or adapted in any manner in whole or in part, without the specific permission of the copyright owner. ► The client is responsible for all charges resulting from a violation of copyright law. ► Films are for non-commercial use only. SUGGESTIONS ► Used properly, a film becomes a powerful medium of communication. Here are a few suggestions to help make your presentation more effective. - Equipment: Ensure that all equipment is properly cleaned and maintained. ► Preview: Before showing, preview the film. Determine its content, know what to emphasize, and plan comments. ► Introduce: Explain how the film relates to the fire safety concerns of the specific audience. Do not summarize the film, but let the audience know what to look for in the content. ► Show: Arrange seats and screen for best viewing. Check equipment beforehand to have everything ready. ► Conclude: Summarize the main points and emphasize their Importance. Distribute any related printed material.
