Malesian materials hitherto distributed and interpreted as C. dicoccum (=Psydrax dicocca Gaertn.) were possibly misidentified according to Bridson, Kew Bull. 40 (1985), as this taxon is restricted to Sri Lanka and S India. Canthium didymum Gaertn. is a synonym of Psydrax dicocca Gaertn., the type species of Psydrax. In Malaya, several entities previously annotated in herbaria as C. didymum have now been placed under Psydrax by KM Wong (Tree Fl. Malaya 4 (1989) 400).
