A number of the presentations at that 2018 BEACON Congress were specifically dedicated to him. This volume Evolution in Action — Past,Present,andFuturecombinessomeofthesewithadditionallysolicitedcontri- butionsfromcolleaguesandmembersofBEACONwhocouldnotattendthe2018 Congress. Thecontributionspublishedhererangefromrefreshinglypersonalstoriesofen- counterswithDr.Goodman,thehistoryandachievementsoftheBEACONCenter for the Study of Evolution in Action under his leadership, to research topics pre- sentedalongthelinesoftheresearchthrustgroupsintheBEACONCenter.These topicsdominatePartsItoVofthebook.AnimportantfocusofBEACONhasal- ways been education about evolution, and this is reflected in the contributions in PartVI.Atourrequest,Dr.Goodmangraciouslyprovideduswithanaccountofhis ownlifestory,whichformsthelastpartofthisvolume.
