These books are a valuable curriculum addition because of readers appreciation for them, their usefulness in integrating "character education," and as examples of literary techniques. Teaching ideas for these books include: (1) charting the (2) identifying images or descriptions that signal conflict or conflicts; (4) discussing allegory; and (5) (3) discussing fantasy elements; violence; encouraging students to "Get a Line."
