Moreover, the definitions of various terms is the backbone of understanding a subject, its research and its communication. The impetus for writing a dictionary has come largely from clinical practice and teaching. Both reveal the lack of focused knowledge concerning the over- lapping territories between psychology, psychia- try, and neurology–a gap manifested in the paucity of literature on the subjects. My intention has been to provide a guide for students from a psycholo- gical, or sociological background, who may find several aspects of these branches which impinge on their interest usefully reviewed. I have tried to produce a comprehensive text; it is a defining dictionary rather than an explaining one. The dictionary incorporates the revised nomenclature and the diagnostic terms have been arranged alphabetically. All suggestions for the modification of this book are welcome and will be duly acknowledged. M.S.
