Editions were issued at regular intervals in 1878, 1888, 1898, and 1908. The Ten Year Book was a complete record not only of Cornell alumni, but of undergraduates, and of all officers of administration and instruction since the founding of the University. This book, the Cornell Alumni Directory, the first to be issued since 1908, contains a list of all former students who have received Cornell degrees not later than February, 1922, and all non-graduates who matriculated not later than June, 1918. With the increased number of students, exigencies of space have prevented the inclusion of either the names of undergraduates or the names of officers of ad- ministration and instruction. Every means have b—een employed to keepwithinboundsthesize and weight ofthisbook ^thin paper, smalltype, narrowmargins, and abbreviations in every case where the meaning would not be affected. It has been our aim to provide a volume of such reduced size and weight as would permit of its general use as a handbook of the Uni- versity, to be carried ontravelsasameansofenablingalumnito keep in close touch with each other. It is the hope of the committee that the usefulness of this book will justify pubhcation of revised fists at not infrequent intervals. In recapitulations following the main alphabetical list appear groupings along geographical fines and class lines, and a fist of sub- scribers to the Semi-Centennial Endowment Fund and totheAlumni Fund. The geographical fisting is that of the last known mailing ad- dress. The class fisting is on the basis of classes with which individ- uals have expressed or implied a desire tobeassociated; such are not necessarily the years in which degrees, if any, were awarded. The first sectionofthe book contains miscellaneousinformation ofgeneral alumni interest. The feature of this publication which in particular marks its dis- tinction from former issues of the Ten Year Book, and from alumni pubfications of other institutions, is that the University Board of Trustees authorized not only the pubfication of an alumni directory but a directory that would be available without charge to each formerstudent who should request a copy. Carryingout theinstruc- tions of this authorization, and in order to bring the information up to as recent a date as possible, letters have been mailed to every former student. These letters have requested a checking of name, address, class and occupation of each individual, with the statement that unlessnotificationwere received the entryinthe directorywould bemadeaccordingtothebestinformationavailable to the University. The letter also gave each former student an opportunity to request a copy of the directory. SincereappreciationisexpressedtothemanythousandsofCornel- lians who have made possible the early pubhcation of the book by their cooperation in returning with their approval or correction the records sent to them during the past few months. Appreciation is also expressed to the officers of those alumni clubs and associations who have cooperated with the alumni office in sending promptly notices of deaths or changes of address. Onthe other hand, the com- pleteness and accuracy of the book have been affected by the non- receipt of information from thousands of alumni. In the compilation of the directory the committee has made one substantial change initsoriginal plan. Occupations are not included. This omission has been made necessary both by the lack of any in- formation whatever with respect to a large proportion of the alumni, and by inadequate information with respect to many others. The committee concluded with regret that it would be best to makeno reference to occupations in this present volume. Namesof37,662 formerstudentsarerecordedinthisedition. This number includes 3,667 deceased, and 2,690 "lost." The information is that on the records of the alumni office on March 8, when the edition went to press. Alumni who detect errors and omissions will perform a distinct service in reporting them to the alumni repre- sentative at the University. This book has been issued under the direction of the undersigned committee, with the detail of preparation and manufacture delegated to the office of the alimini representative. The principal credit for the results goes to Miss Clara Howard '14. It is to her management and loyalty that the speed of pubhcation and accuracy of record have been attained. The committee also wishes to testify to the cooperation of the entire force of the alumni office, and to express appreciation to David F. Hoy '91 for many hours of expertvolunteer service, and to R. W. Sailor '07, for personal interest shown as president of the Cornell Pubhcations PrintingCompany, theprinters of the book. Heebebt D. Mason '00, Alumni Trustee John L.
