As an Affiliated Conference of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), the ISD conference complements the international network of general IS conferences (ICIS, ECIS, AMCIS, PACIS, ACIS). The ISD conference continues the tradition started with the first Polish-Scandinavian Seminar on Current Trends in Information Systems Development Methodologies, held in Gdansk, Poland in 1988. This seminar has evolved into the International Conference on Information Systems Development. Duringitshistory, theconferencehasfocusedondifferentaspects, rangingfrom methodological, infrastructural, or educational challenges in the ISD field to bridging the gaps between industry, academia, and society. The development of informationsystemshasparalleledtechnologicaldevelopmentsandthedeployment of those technologies in all areas of society, including government, industry, community, andinthehome.ISDhasalwayspromotedacloseinteractionbetween theory and practice that has set an agenda focused on the integration of people, processes, and technology within a specific context. ThispublicationisaselectionofpapersfromISD2016,the25thISDconference hostedbytheFacultyofInformaticsandCommunication,UniversityofEconomics in Katowice, and held in Katowice, Poland on August 24–26, 2016. All accepted papers have been published in the AIS eLibrary at http://aisel.aisnet.org/isd2014/ proceedings2016. This volume contains extended versions of the best papers, as selected by the ISD2016 Proceedings Editors. The theme of the conference was Complexity in Information Systems Development. Complexity in information systems development includes consider- ationsofcontext, creativity, andcognitionintheinformationsystemsdevelopment field which enable information systems to be examined as they are actually developed,implemented,andused.Context-awarecomputingreferstotheabilityof computingdevicestodetectandsense, interpret, andrespondto, aspectsofauser’s local environment and the computing devices themselves. Thus, considerations of context are especially important for mobile applications development. Cognition v vi Preface and creativity are also present in an organization’s development efforts, in the identification of new markets and technologies, and in their information systems projects. Context, creativity and cognition have different interpretations in social and technical sciences, which encourages inter-, cross-, multi- and intradisciplinary research.Assuch, complexityininformationsystemdevelopmentismanifestedby projects and research works focusing on technological issues as well as on social, organizational and economic issues. ISD2016 focused on these and associated topics in order to promote research intotheoreticalandmethodologicalissuesandwaysinwhichcomplexityinfluence the field of Information Systems Development. We believe that the papers assembled in this publication are an important contribution in this regard.
