As a result, Seilerwas bominFortCollins,butmovedto SouthFloridaatage 1 and-has livedandservedthe area for nearly all ofhis life. After graduating from Cardinal Gibbons High School, Seilerheaded north to the University ofNotre Dame, where he earned a BachelorofBusinessAdministrationdegree in 1985. Hethen returned to South Florida where he earned his Juris Doctor degree at the University ofMiami's School ofLaw. Seilermarried the former Susan Rimes, ofMiami, and togetherthey became parents offour children: daughters Marianna, Jacqueline and Susanne and son Preston. With their young fami- ly growing, the Sellers became active members of community life in Broward County and haven't slowed down. As an attorney. Jack had a strong interest in public service. After serving on the Wilton Manors Board ofAdjustment andAppeals, he took the plunge into elected office, running for-andwinning — a spot onthe city council. There he servedas amemberfrom 1993- 1996, vice mayor from 1996-1998 and mayor from 1998 to 2000. His next step was to the state legislature, where in 2000 he won the District 92 seat vacated by formerWilton Manors mayor Tracy Stafford. Seilerwassubsequentlyre-electedin2002, 2004and2006. Heleftofficebecause ofterm limits in 2008. During his years there, Seiler sponsored dozens ofbills and served on a variety ofcouncils and committees, includingthePolicy& BudgetCouncil, wherehewastheDemocraticrankingmember; theCommitteeonConstitutionalandCivil Law and the Rules and Calendar Council. Although he remains a staunch Notre Dame supporter, in his life outside government. His service to the community is widespread, from his church, where he serves as a lector, to educational, cultural arts, social serv- ice, business and legal organizations, where he serves in varying capacities. Seller's brightestmomentduringhis legislative careercamewhenhe took on a leadershiprole inthe special sessiontoreformprop- ertytaxes in 2007. His colleagues saythat Seiler, who chairedthe Broward CountyLegislative Delegation in 2008, hadlongcommand- ed respect from legislators ofboth parties throughout the state. "When Rep. Seiler speaks...people listen," noted a Florida Senate colleague from Broward County, Steven Geller. "His words are valued in Tallahassee; his ideas are valued in Tallahassee." COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER EUyn Setnor Bogdanoff After more than 20 years as a volunteer in charitable and community activities, Ellyn Bogdanoffenteredcommunity serviceinaspecial electionin2004. Shewas electedas amember ofthe Florida House ofRepresentatives serving northeastern Broward County and a sliver of southeastern Palm Beach County, in District 91. Since then, she's been working non-stop forher constituents andthestate's interests,particularlyinthe areasofeducationandchildadvocacy, the two interests aboutwhich she is most passionate. Currently she is the highest-ranking Republican elected official living in Broward County. Anative ofNorth Miami, Bogdanoffwent on to the University ofFlorida where she earned a BachelorofSciencedegree in insurance andriskmanagement. Shewenttowork inthe insurance industry and for 16 years was a shareholder in the firm ofSetnor, Byer, Bogdanoff, Inc. and a columnist for American Agent Broker, a national insurance industry publication. She sold her interest in the firm in 1996 and focused on the political arena establishing BBS Consulting in 1997, a government and corporate consulting firm. Later she also became a student at Nova Southeastern University's Shepard Broad Law School, where she received her Juris Doctor degree magna cum laude in 2003. She is a member ofthe Florida Bar and practices law in Fort Lauderdale. In 2004, as a freshman legislator, Bogdanoffwas presented the Rising StarAward from the Probate and Real Property Section of theFloridaBar. Shealsohasbeenhonoredas LegislatoroftheYearbytheFloridaAssociationofRealtors(2006)andtheFloridaDental Association (2008). Her work in the legislature has been recognized by Children First, the Broward Partnership for the Homeless, Covenant House Florida and the FloridaAssociation ofSchool Administrators.
