MuchhaschangedsincethefoundingofCIUS.TheSovietUnionhascollapsedandUkrainehasgaineditsindependence. YettheInstitute’staskhasonlybecomelarger,morecomplex,andmorevital.CIUSisheavilyinvolvedinUkraine,notonlyin helpingtoreshapethehumanitiesandsocialsciencesinthepost-Sovietera,butalsoinhelpingUkrainereformitslawsto promotedemocracyandamarketeconomy.TheformerlyindifferentWesternacademicandpoliticalelitehasbecomeaneager consumerofInstitutepublications,aswellasacooperativepartnerinavarietyofacademicendeavours.AndUkrainian- Canadians,mostofwhomnowbelongtothefourthandfifthgenerationinCanada,canrevitalizetheirUkrainianheritageby drawingontheintellectualresourcescreatedbytheCanadianInstituteofUkrainianStudies.
