Printe*l at the Officeof A. iMcPhcrson, $1 NorthJames St., Hamilton, Ont. - PREFACE The publishers, in presenting their twelfth annual edition of the Cityof Hamilton Directory, gratefullyacknowledge thesupport awarded them, and assure their patrons, the great majority ofwhom they are happy to know are personal friends or acquaintances, that as in the past, so in the future, every means in their power will be exerted to make the work as thorough and reliable as it is possible for a compilation of this kind to be. Every house has been visited by our agents, and if errors are discovered we solicit a lenient criticism. The present volume contains about 12,000 names and addresses which is in excess, considering the population of the city, of the average Directory number. Wishing our patrons a favorable year, we take our leave, hoping in due time fo request their support for the thirteenth edition ofthis book. ^^Several of our patrons complain that certain persons are in the habit ot constantly borrowing Directories, and when most needed they are not to be found. The best remedy tor this evil is not to permit the book to leave your premises. Every business man requires the book and can afford to purchase it. W. H. IRWIN & CO. March ist, 1885. W. H.
