It includes the creation of two new office buildings, new and redeveloped retail space, and cultural and/or neighborhood facilities. Uses presently occupying the site include Jordan Marsh, Lafayette Place, the Lafayette Hotel, and a 1,024 car underground garage. Jordan Marsh would be renovated and a new office tower with a height of 295' built above it at the Summer/Chauncy Street corner. Lafayette Place will be stripped to its steel structure and reconfigured along a cross-axial plan from Washington to Chauncy Streets instead of its present circular orientation. On the present vacant Hayward Place lot a new Bloomingdale ' Department Store is proposed with an office tower above to a height of 465 feet. The Lafayette Hotel which is independently owned will remain unchanged. The existing parking facility at Lafayette Place will be maintained and augmented with additional parking under Bloomingdales Public benefits proposed include a daycare facility, and unspecified cultural uses such as gallery space and performance areas, and extensive job training programs. In particular, the creation of a Chinatown multi-purpose facility including a YMCA in conjunction with the R3/R3A development and assistance to the Opera Company have been discussed with the developer.
