SHAKOOR Introduction In Arabic, black magic is called as Sihr. Sihr is defined as, “An agreement set between a magician and a Shaytaan 1 , which stipulates that the magician should commit certain illegal or polytheistic acts, in return to the Shaytaan’s assistance and obedience in fulfilling the magician’s request.” With the help of devil, the magician sometimes, discloses the name of the sufferer, his/her town, his/her past and the purpose of his/her visit. Some people deny the existence of Jinn; hence, they also deny the magic. But, in reality, they do exist and certainly have effect. The Arabs, Indians, Persians and some Romans also agree upon it. Generally, in magic, an agreement is established between the magician and the one of the leaders of the tribe of Jinn and demons. The leader commands one of the tribe's disrespectful demons to work for the magician; but on condition that the magician commits particular pagan rituals either secretly or openly or worship them as lords besides Allah. 1 Satan AS-SAAJIDOON 2 BLACK MAGIC & JINNS COMPILED BY BINT A. SHAKOOR Methods to call out the Jinns I. Al-Iqsaam (magician swears by the Chief of Shaytaan) In a dark room, in the state of impurity or by wearing dirty clothes, the magician recites certain spells which contains an oath with the Jinn from their Chief; and appealing them, using their chief as an object of swearing (i.e., by your master, etc.…), also praising the senior Jinn and seeking refuge in him. Then the phantom appears before him in the form of a dog or snake etc., but sometimes nothing appears before him, or he may hear a voice or nothing at all. In this case, he may put a knot around the trace of the targeted person such as a hair lock or sweaty garment. Then he would instruct the Jinn to obey whatever he commands. II. Slaughtering Generally, magician slaughter black bird or animal with particular description according to Jinn’s demand, without the Name of Allah. Sometimes, magician stains the sufferer with its blood. Later, magician throws away the corpse in a ruined place, like well or deserted area, which generally are the dwellings of Jinn. Then, magician returns back home, spells his incantation and orders the Jinn to act upon his command. III. As-Sufliyya (Intense sense of disbelief and Paganism) This is a very famous technique, in which the magician has a large group of Jinns working for him and following his orders, because in comparison with the other magicians, his disbelief and paganism would be very intense. In this technique, magician wears the Quran AS-SAAJIDOON 3 BLACK MAGIC & JINNS COMPILED BY BINT A. SHAKOOR in his feet like a pair of shoes and goes into the toilet to recite his chants. Later on, leaves the toilet and goes into a room to command the Jinn to do whatever he orders. In reaction to it, the Jinn hastens to implement his commands as he has strong disbelief in Allah and wants to become more Shaytaanic. In order to make Shaytaan happy, the magician needs to commit grave offenses, such as, illegal sexual intercourse with a stranger, incest, homosexuality, and mocking religion. IV. An-Najaasaa (magician writes the aayaat of the Quran with filth) The magician writes an aayah of the Quran with filthy liquids, such as, menstrual blood, etc., chanting his polytheistic spells. Consequently, when the Jinn appears, the magician orders him to obey his command. V. At-Tankis (magician writes the words of the Quran backwards) The magician writes the aayaat of one of the Surahs of the Quran backwards, while chanting his spells. Subsequently the Jinn appears and the magician commands him to act upon his wish. VI. At-Tanjim (magician communicates with a specific star) The magician observes the sky and waits till the appearance of a particular star, which emerges merely once in a year. Then talks to that star using bewitching language and other polytheistic spells, in which they seek refuge in that star to solve their magic. He does AS-SAAJIDOON 4 BLACK MAGIC & JINNS COMPILED BY BINT A. SHAKOOR some actions, by which he claims to make the spirit of that star descend. Actually, this is a deed of worshipping that star, though magician may not be aware of his deed. Because of this worship, the Jinn fulfills the magician’s command. But the magician thinks, it is the star, which aids him. However, the star, which is wrongly blamed, does not even know what is happening. The magician believes that this kind of magic cannot be solved unless the star reappears. VII. Al-Kaffu (magician draws a square around the left hand of a young child) This technique is mainly used in search of the lost items. The magician takes a young child who hasn’t yet reached puberty, stipulates that the boy should not be in a state of ablution, then draws a square around his left hand. Then he writes spells, having words of polytheism, around the four corners of the square. Then, he applies oil and blue ink or oil and blue rose in that square. After that the magician writes another spell in a single word on a rectangular paper. Then, places that paper over the face of the child as a covering, placing a cap on it so that it remains intact. With a thick cloth, he covers the child completely, so that the child cannot see the magician, but can see his own hand. Then the magician starts to recite spell, which contains words of extreme disbelief. Consequently, the child senses as if the darkness has turned into light, and also sees the moving image on his hand. The magician asks the child to convey the image that he orders so and so, then the image begins to move according to his commands. AS-SAAJIDOON 5 BLACK MAGIC & JINNS COMPILED BY BINT A. SHAKOOR VIII. Al-Athar (magicians traces the smell of sweat in garment) The magician requests the sufferer to bring a cloth, which has traces of sweat, for example shirt, turban or handkerchief. Magician binds knot of that sweaty cloth, measuring a width of four fingers. Then, he grips it tightly and recites aloud Surah At-Takaathur or some other small Surah from the Quran. He, then, chants a spell silently and calls the Jinn and says, “If this patient’s illness is caused due to Jinn, then shorten this garment. If the patient’s illness has been caused due to an evil eye, then lengthen it. If the patient’s illness is natural, then leave the length of the garment as it is.” The magician re-measures the cloth; if it shortens or lengthen; he says the sufferer accordingly. But if the size remains the same (i.e., a width of four fingers), he says to the sufferer, “There is nothing wrong with you, go and see a doctor.” Mostly, common people tend to think that when magician says atheistic verses of magic, and strongly maintains what he utters, by mixing it with several aayaat from the Quran, they are really treated with the Quran. (Bali, 2018) AS-SAAJIDOON 6 BLACK MAGIC & JINNS COMPILED BY BINT A. SHAKOOR Purpose of black magic The Shaytaan promises Allah, “By Your Might, I will surely mislead them all, except among them, Your chosen servants”. (Surah Sad [38], 2018) From the things that Shaytaan try to mislead the human beings is magic. The Shaytaan teaches this knowledge to the magician that has no advantage, but only harm. This knowledge is used to exploit, to separate a man from his wife, cause madness, restlessness, laziness, sexual incompetence, sterility, sickness, etc. The magician’s purpose to do black magic is to either earn money from the sufferer or fame. But the main purpose of the magicians, who deals with devilish Jinns, is to mislead people’s mind, to make their souls wretched and to drive people astray, otherwise Jinns will not help them. The other reason is that some evil people in the society can't tolerate if they see someone on straight path. It may be due to their fear that others will point out their evil acts or they don’t want them to go to Paradise while they don't. This resembles exactly the nature of the Shaytaan. As stated in Quran, “Say, I seek refuge in the Rabb of mankind…. from the evil of the retreating whisperer, who whispers (evil) into the breasts of mankind- from among the Jinn and mankind.” (Surah An-Naas [114], 2018) So, it is clear that Shaytaan are from Jinn and mankind, and that is why the last Surah of the Qur'an is Surah An-Naas, which means, even if we complete the Quran, we need protection from Jinn and mankind. Basically, Shaytaan have two types of aims, which he achieves through the magicians, which are as follows: AS-SAAJIDOON 7 BLACK MAGIC & JINNS COMPILED BY BINT A. SHAKOOR 1. Long-term aim: This aim is to see human beings thrown into the hellfire and stopped from entering Jannah. 2. Short-term aims: He has lots of short-term aims, some of which are as follows: • To get the people involved in idolatry and disbelief • Lead the people to sins • Preventing the people from obeying Allah • Spoiling the acts of obedience to Allah • Harming people mentally and physically AS-SAAJIDOON 8 BLACK MAGIC & JINNS COMPILED BY BINT A. SHAKOOR Types and levels of the Jinn The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “There are three types of Jinn: One of them is which flies through the air, the other one in the form of snakes and dogs, and the last one is which stays at a place and travels about.” Jinn can travel a huge distance within a second. Similar to humans, Jinns are of different ways and beliefs. Some of them are completely devoted to do good and be righteous whereas the others are less so. Some are heedless; however, others are absolute disbelievers. Even the disbeliever Jinns can embrace Islam. Those Jinns who listened to the Quran say, “And among us are Muslims (in submission to Allah), and among us are the unjust. And whoever has become Muslim- those have sought out the right course. But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood” (Surah Al-Jinn [72:14-15], 2018). It means some of them are Muslims and some have oppressed their own souls by being disbelievers. Whoever embraced Islam has established himself upon the path of guidance by his actions but whosoever among them wronged their own souls will be the fuel of the hellfire. Allah gave the Jinn the choice to become believers or disbelievers. Basically, the believing Jinn is called Jinn and disbelieving Jinn is called Shaytaan (devil). The Shaytaan help the magicians in misguiding the people. AS-SAAJIDOON 9
