More detailed information can be found in the Arcade Game Maker scope document. This document describes how to use Bowling. 1.2 Readership This document is intended to provide users of the Bowling game with information about how to install and play the game. 1 2 Getting Started If the game is not installed, follow the instructions in Appendix A to install. To begin playing the game, perform a double mouse click on the game executable. The game will be displayed and will be in the initialized mode. For information on the modes, see section 3. 2 CMU/SEI-2001-TR-001 3 Modes of Operation There are three modes of operation for this game. Initialized – the executable has loaded and the initial display is visible. Initiate this mode by performing a mouse double click on the executable. Playing – initiate this mode by positioning the mouse cursor at a spot from which you which the bowling ball to be launched. A left mouse button click will release the ball. Repeat this until all of the frames have been bowled. Paused – the game animation is not running and all elements remain stationary. Initiate this mode by performing a left mouse button press. Releasing the button starts play again. 3 4 Rules for Bowling Bowling has a number of rules. 1. The player attempts to knock down as many pins as possible in the given number of trys (frames). 2. Knocking down all the pins on the first try in a frame is termed a strike. 3. Knocking down all the pins on the two tries in a frame is termed a spare. 4. The score for a frame is the total number of pins knocked down by the two throws. 5. The score for a frame in which a spare is made is 10 plus the number of pins knocked down by the first ball of the next frame. 6. The score for a frame in which a strike is made is 10 plus the number of pins knocked down by the next two balls. 7. In the 10th frame, if a strike or spare is achieved, a third ball is thrown and the number of pins added to the score for that frame. 4 CMU/SEI-2001-TR-001 5 Expected Output When Bowling is run, the display should appear as shown in Figure 1.
