The Scientific programmes being organized here would be one step towards fulfilling the objective of medical education. We have organized few international and national conferences and It is with great pride we present the annual report of AIIMS, Rishikesh for the year 2013-2014. This annual report CMEs, inviting experts of national and international stature. not only documents all events and milestones in the journey of our nascent institute but it also celebrates our accomplishments. There is increasing evidence that India is witnessing stroke epidemic, the coexisting cardiac illness, diabetes, smoking, sedentary habits and changes in life style of modern India predisposes Indians for stroke. The scenario in Uttarakhand is still bleaker due to high risk factors prevalent in this area. To highlight these Prof. (Dr.) Latika Mohan issues a CME was organized on 10th January 2014 on “Acute Ischemic Stroke: Basics to Advances”. It is our dream to develop a self- sustaining system to reach the remote areas of hills and provide super specialist services using telemedicine via an approachable, user friendly, economic and indigenous model. To assist and authenticate our endeavors in academic front the 1st Academic Committee meeting was held on 25thMarch, 2014. Among the discussed agenda points the course, curriculum and evaluation for all the academic programs was foremost. The Academic Committee recommended the appointments for the different chairs at academic front including Dean, Sub-Dean (Academics/ Research) and Sub-Dean (Examination) at AIIMS Rishikesh. The committee also approved constitution of Staff Council at AIIMS Rishikesh and many other committees looking after Academics, Examinations and students’ welfare.The Committee also pondered on establishment of new specialties, departments, centres and introduction of new courses, diplomas and degrees. Academic Programs Annual Report 2013-14 3.1Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) In 2012 AIIMS, Rishikesh became a witness to a struggle of wills to establish M.B.B.S. course and provide facilities to the first batch. Despite the incomplete basic infrastructure, no Lecture Halls, Dissection hall, laboratories, departments and faculty rooms, hostels and mess facilities the persistent efforts paid off and the regular classes started with full throttle and slowly the amenities were built. It was a truly herculean task which was achieved through coordinated efforts of the whole team of faculty and administration. Officially the M.B.B.S. classes kick-started in AIIMS, Rishikesh with a ceremony organized on 20.9.2012. The first batch had 50 students and their induction into medical education was preceded by 15 days of foundation course covering all important aspects of medical education. After this they embarked upon a course of first professional subjects viz Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology. Their course was completed in time and they appeared for their first professional examination.
