Surviving Lela Mae are: Stepson Bill Richey of Palm City, Florida, wife Linda, and two Granddaughters: Leeana - 18yrs old and Lynet - 14 yrs old; one brother: Dennis French of Wimberly, TX, and numerous nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. Lela Mae Biddison loved the Lord her God with all her heart, mind, soul and strength. She lived her life to honor Him. She retired from the State Chest Hospital in Harlingen, TX. They settled in Hunt County, near Greenville. They reared a family of 12 children, all with names that began with the letter M., Mary, Mack, Monroe, Minthie, etc. Mary married James December 18, 1890. They operated a drug store for several years in Seagoville, before coming to Coleman County in 1910. They had eight children, seven of whom reached maturity. The eldest daughter, Effie Elizabeth Virginia, was born in Hunt County, and the youngest daughter, Clonnie Mae, was born in Gouldbusk. All of the others were born in Seagoville. The eldest son, William Thomas (October 12, 1891-May 24, 1965) married Callie M. Cardwell. They had one son, James Cardwell, who served in WWII as a Captain, and died in an automobile accident. He left no issue. Effie Elizabeth Virginia, July 1, 1893, married Laroy Hunton Griffith, December 16, 1913. Ada Nell, December 4, 1897, married (1) John E. Gray, and (2) Jack Sossaman. She enlisted in the Women's Air Corps until the end of WWII. She left no issue. She is buried in Coleman. Walter Earl, November 17, 1900, married Lois Dieterich, Deceember 12, 1919. Hugh Carroll, December 22, 1902, married Louise Hamilton. They had two children: Katherine, born March 17, 1934, and Hugh Howard, May 19, 1937. Hugh Carroll died March 8, 1983, and gave his body to Cancer Research. Roy Obed, April 18, 1905-December 13, 1945, married Lois Z. Thompson of Gouldbusk. They settled near the town of Gouldbusk. In 1910, the eldest son of J.F. and Mary A. Thweatt, Will T., married and came to live with his grandfather. He must have liked the country, as he was soon followed by the rest of the family. The family bought land less than a mile from Gouldbusk. They came to Valera by train from Seagoville. One of the first crops planted by the Thweatt family was Sudan grass. This crop was so successful that he became known as 'The Sudan King of West Texas.' The Thweatt family belonged to the Methodist Church and were active in establishing the early church in Gouldbusk. J.F. Thweatt was one of the three Trustees when the present building was built around 1914 or 15." SMITH and John DONAHO Surveys and homesteaded just north of Gouldbusk. There was a daughter of the Thweatts whose name was Effie Elizabeth. She was 'courted' by secret signals given by the Griffith's cotton gin whistle. On December 16, 1913, Effie Elizabeth and Laroy Hunton were married and bought land now know as the Terrell Place, just across Bull Creek from his father. L.H. 'Roy' found that he did not like farming. He and his cousin, Lonnie Smith, worked at different jobs, driving trucks, etc. In 1918, Roy came home to go to fight for his country, but Armistice was declared before he could leave. He went to work for Clyde Edens in the Edens Mercantile Company in Gouldbusk until it burned in 1925. Clyde Edens bought out Stevens Hardware in Coleman, and asked Roy, or Pearl, as he was affectionally called, to work for him, which he did until Clyde and Pearl returned as partners in the General Merchandise Company in Gouldbusk. The Griffiths became sole owners of the store for over 40 years. During the depression, there were many ups and downs. It was difficult to keep the store running on a financial level, especially when so many customers were given credit. Pearl knew the store would be run well by his wife and his brother-in-law, Roy Thweatt, so he undertook many other projects for the benefit of his community. He became the unofficial mayor of the town. He was a member of the Fraternal He became the unofficial mayor of the town. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Woodmen of the World and the International Order of Odd Fellows. At the age of 19, he was one of the youngest Noble Grand Commanders. In 1928, he was secretary and treasurer of the Coleman County Chamber of Commerce; was rain and weather reporter for the Lower Colorado River Authority, until his death; sparked several work projects of the community, such as the building of the Gouldbusk Lake; operated the water system for many years; and helped initiate the REA program for Coleman County. Two daughters were forn to 'Mr. Pearl and Miss Effie.' Mary Love, born November 14, 1914, and Emma Nell, December 17, 1916. Mary Love married Fabrian A. Griffin, September 6, 1940. She was a school teacher whose first school was in the Hardin community. They had two sons, Tommy Griffith, September 9, 1943, and Larry Wayne, July 31, 1945. Richey and Ora Braswell listed as a charter member of Grassland Church of the Nazarene, which organized on August 18, 1921 and met in the Grassland school building until May. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Grassland. Hugh was the stepson of Daniel K. from his second wife, Nancy [ROE] McNEAL, widow of Robert McNEAL. His will is located in Marksville, Avoyelles Parish, Vol. 1 (1855-1858), pp 98-102. On 25 Jan 1856, permission to sale Slaves was requested of the court on a petition by William RITCHIE and also a petition by Kenedy RITCHIE and Andrew RITCHIE. The sale of Cypress, age about 47 yrs and Mary, aged about 44 yrs with three children under the age of 10 yrs was ordered by the court on 25 Jan 1856. Sale was completed on 7 Apr 1856. On 21 Apr 1856, Recorded in Bk AA, p. 228, #9198 in Avoyelles Parish, LA, William and Andrew RICHEY, vendors, sold to Vendee, Kennedy RICHEY, 320 arpents of land at Point Maegre.
