Printedonacid-freepaper 543210 springer.com Preface Ambient Intelligence (AmI) is a recent paradigm, emerging from the confluence of several areas like Artificial Intelligence and Ubiquitous Computing, where computers are used as proactive tools assisting people in their day-to-day to make their lives more comfortable. The interaction with computers is changing quickly and becoming more natural for us, this is an important aim for AmI emphasizing interaction with computational systems through friendly interfaces, like those based on natural language or simple gestures. This inclusion of technology in our day-to-day objects and environments should be as invisible as possible, which can be facilitated through the computational power and communication technologies embedded in many devices available nowadays. ISAmI is the International Symposium on Ambient Intelligence, aiming to bring together researchers from various disciplines that constitute the scientific field of Ambient Intelligence to present and discuss the latest results, new ideas, projects and lessons obtained from recent experiences in building AmI systems. This volume presents the papers that have been accepted in this first edition. These papers reports on innovative results and advances achieved recently in this area. Each paper has been reviewed by three different reviewers, from an interna- tional committee composed of 58 members from 18 different countries. From the 52 submissions received, 21 were selected for full presentation at the conference, 9 were accepted as short papers and 4 papers accept in the doctoral consortium. We would like to thank all the contributing authors, as well as the members of the Program Committee and the Local Organizing Committee for their hard and highly valuable work. Their work has helped to contribute to the success of the ISAmI 2010 event. Thanks for your help, ISAmI2010 would not have existed without your contribution. June 2010 The editors Juan C.
