Trechiama oopterusS. UENo (1995,p. 154, figs. 7-9, 16) is amedium-sized anophthalmictrechinebeetleendemictotheupperpartoftheSurikami-gawadrainage area at the northwestern corner of Fukushima Prefecture in northeastern Honshu, Japan.It isrecordedontheRedDataBookoftheJapaneseGovernmentasanendan- geredspecies,sinceitstypehabitat,whichhadbeentheonly knownlocality of the speciesbefore2000,wasthreatenedbytheconstructionoftheSurikami-gawaReser- voir. Tofindoutother habitatsofthetrechinebeetleabovetheprospectiveponding surfaceofthereservoir,thestaffoftheCivilEngineeringandEco-technologyConsul- tantsCo., Ltd.andseveralmembersoftheFukushimaInsect-lover'sAssociationmade acareful survey of theareaconcernednear theendofOctober 2000, inwhichthe secondauthor tookpartasoneofthediscoverersoftheendangeredspecies.Unfortu- nately, thefirstauthorwasunabletoparticipateinitashewasinChinathen,buthe was invitedto thesecondsurveycarriedout inMaythisyear, just beforethefinal proofreadingofthispaper,andcarefullyexaminedtheenvironmentagain. Thefirstattemptprovedasuccess,andasecondhabitatofthebeetlewaslocated attheothersideofthelowridgeabout1.6kmnorthwestofthetypelocalityandabove 250 Shun-lobiUENoandYoshiakiN1sHIKA、、,A thepondingsurface.Whatwasunexpectedwasthediscoveryofadifferentspeciesof anophthalmic trechinebeetle fromascreelyingon theopposite sideof themain courseof the Surikami-gawaRiver, 1.7kmnorthwest of thesecond locality ofT oopterus.ThisnewlyfoundspeciesisverysimilartoToopterusingeneralappearance andhardlyrecognizableinthefiefd,Lbutexternallydiffersfromthelatterinthechaeto_ taxyofthepronotumandelytra.Specificdifferencebetweenthetwospeciesisdecisjve intheconfigurationofthemalegenitalia.whichindicatesthattheybelongtodifferent lineagesoftheechigonissubgroupandthatthesecondspeciesisrelatedte l:nlasa_ takaiS.UENooftheZaoMountains.Thescreeinw、lichthisspeciesdwellsishigher f「omtheprospectivepondingsurfacethanthetypehabitatofToopte1・us,butitssur_ viva1canbethreatenedbydroughtcausedbydeforestationintheclosesurroundingsof thereservoir,particularlyduetoroadconstruction.Wearethereforegoingtodescrjbe itinthepresentpaperunderthenameofTrechianlapauclsaetainordertorecorditas athreatenedspecies. Theabbreviationsusedhereinarethesameasthoseexplainedinpreviouspapers bythefirstauthor. However, it isdecisively different fromthezaospecjesintheabsenceofthepronota1postangularandtheelytralp「eapi- ca1setaeaswellasinthemuchlongerandslendererapicallobeoftheaedeagus.LOSS of both the setaespecified above is seldom found in themembers of the9enuS T1-echjama,exceptinthoseofthelavlcolasubgroup(cf.UENo,1960,1972,1989)・and evenlossofthepreapica1setaealoneisexceptional,thoughitisoneofthediagnostic featuresof thetamaensIssubgroup(cf.UEN0,1981;UEN0&SONE,1994)・ASCom- paredwjththepreapica1setaeontheelytra,thepostangularsetaeontheP「onOtuma「e more frequently lost, andconstantlysoin theo川and. !fa!Complexes of theo川 group(cfUENo,lg85b).Thus,TpaucIsaetacanberecognizedsolelyonthelossof thetaxonomicallyimportanttactilesetaeonthepronotumandelytra,thou9h「eve「SOin ofthepostangularorthepreapica1setaemayrarelyoccurononeSideasWasPointed out jnseveralspeciesoftheta111aensisandthelavlcolasubgroups.F「omToOPte「uS, thepresentspeciescanbereadilydiscriminatedbythelossofthetwoimPO「tantSetae andthedjff,erentlyshapedmalegenitaliaaboveallbythepeculiarlymodifiedaedea9a1 254 Shun-lobiUENoand YoshiakiNlsHIKA゛A apical lobe(cf.UENo,1995,figs.10-22onp. l59). Thetypehabitatofthisinterestingspeciesislocatedinasidegully ontheleft sideof themaincourseoftheSurikami-gawaRiver,about 13kmwestbynorthof Nagoandonly500mremovedfromtheMiyagiborder.Anarrowstream owsdown thegullyshadedbydeciduousbroadleavedtrees,exposingsteepgreentuffslopeson eitherbankatbends.Mostofthemarebareandconsolidate(i,butthereisafairlylarge oneontheleftsidewhose foot isthicklycoveredwithsoil mingledwith fist-sized tuffaceousgravel (cf.Fig 4).Itisthisscreethatisinhabitedbythenewtrechinebee- tle.Allthespecimensknownweredugout fromthedepthof30-70 cmat thecentral partofthescree.wheretheupperhypogeanzonewasveryhumidbeing tedbyaseep- age.Wehavemadeextensivesearchesforanophthalmictrechinesinthisandnearby gullies,buthavesofarbeenunabletolocateanyotherhabitatsofTpauclsaeta nrechia'na(s.str)oopterusS.UENo,1995 Tli'ec/1la'fia(s.str)oopte1'itsS. Aswasnoticedintheintroductionofthispaper,asecondhabitatof oopfenfswasdiscoveredinlastautumnat thenorthernsideofthesameridgeasthe typehabitat lies. Itwasascreeabout7mwidelyinginasidegullyoftheNakatsu_ gawa,atributary of theSurikami-gawaRiver. What ispeculiar isthat thescree is formedabout 8mabovethewaterofthestream owingthroughthegully,anddoubt_ lessforthisreason,itissubjecttoseasonalchangesoftheclimate.Whenwerevisited theplaceinthisspring,thesurfaceofthescreewascompletelydriedup, forminga hardcrustbakedbythesun.However,theupperhypogeanzonebelowwastosuchan extentprotectedbythecrustastokeepitsdeepestpartsufficientlyhumid forharbour_ ingtheanophthalmictrechine.All thefivespecimensof oopferzfs recordedabove werefoundinthisscreeatadepthof50-120cm. Thetwoknownhabitatsof「oopfertfsarelocatednearthezonewherethelapilli tu formationofNeoceneoriginmeetsthegranitebodyofCretaceousorigin.Judging fromgeologicalandtopographicalevidences,occurrenceofthistrechinebeetleseems tobeconfinedtoasmall lapillituffareaat thenortheasternendoftheNanatsumori Ridge,whichissurroundedby theSurikami-gawaRiver, twoof itstributaries, the Karasu-gawaandtheNakatsu-gawa,andthelargegranitebody. However,thehillyareaontherightsideoftheKarasu-gawahasbeencom- pletelydestroyedbythequarryingofstoneblocksforconstructingthelargedam. Itistoberegrettedthat thetypehabitatofToopteruswillbesubmergedinthe reservoir withina fewyears,but thetrechinespeciescansurvivesomewhereinthe small lapilli tuffareaspecifiedabove,eventhoughitisnoteasytolocateitsprecise habitatsduetopaucityoffavourabletalusesorcolluvia. 要 約 上野俊一・西川喜朗:東北地方で見つかったナガチビゴミムシ属の1新危急種. - 福島県 の北西端, 福島市飯坂町茂庭名号の摺上川ダム建設予定地の近傍で発見された, ナガチビゴミ ムシ属の1盲目種を新種と認め, モニワメクラチビゴミムシTli,ooh!ama(s.str)patlclsaetaS.UEN0 etY.NIsHIKAwAという新名を与えて記載した. この新種は,措上川の対岸で発見され, 絶減危惧 種として環境省版のレッド・データ・ブックに登録されている, スリカミメクラチビゴミムシ Toopte1・,,sS.UENoに体形が酷似しているが, 雄交尾器の形状からみて, 系統がやや異なるザオ ウメクラチビゴミムシT,nasataka,S.UENoに近縁のものと考えられる. それほど広くない川を 挟んで別種のチビゴミムシが生息していること自体が希有の例だが, そのいずれもが絶減の危 惧される状態にあるのはさらに驚くべきことである. ただし, モニワメクラチビゴミムシのす んでいる地下浅層は, スリカミメクラチビゴミムシの基準産地に比べると湛水予定面からの比 高が大きいので,斜面の上部をおおう樹林が保全され,地下環境の湿度が飽和状態に保たれれ ば, 種の存続の保証される可能性が高い.
