A guide to services in Bath & North East Somerset for people living with dementia, their carers, family and friends 2018-19 Why should you attend an assessment for a possible diagnosis of dementia? 1. Because you may not have dementia and an assessment would consider other possible causes of your symptoms 2.   Once diagnosed you may be entitled to a whole range of fnancial help including possible Council Tax discount/attendance and or carer’s allowance 3. You will be able to obtain access to the right support which could include attending suitable social groups and activities  4.   You may be entitled to a variety of dementia support workers 5.   You will be entitled to a bus travel assistance wallet which may help you travel on public transport, and may help promote your independence 6.   You may have access to specialist treatment and may also be entitled to free fu vaccinations 7.   Your carer or spouse will also have access to a range of support and guidance 8.   You will have access to technical equipment to aid independent living 9. You will be entitled to an Annual Health Care Review 10. These services are available throughout Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES). 4 We are the B&NES Dementia Action Alliance, a group of individuals from Welcome from the Editors the area who aim to make B&NES dementia friendly. Our aim is to help people living with dementia to remain in their community for as long as possible with a high quality of life. This booklet has been created with the hope that it will help to achieve this aim by raising awareness of the many dementia friendly services running in B&NES. From services ofering legal and fnancial advice to those ofering a day centre as a place to socialise and have fun, this booklet contains 112 services that are likely to help people living with dementia, their carers, family and friends. We are also in the process of scheduling a list of activities that are dementia friendly. Dates and times can be found at our website www.dementiafriendlybath.org The information contained herein was correct at the time of publishing to the best of our knowledge. If you provide a service or activity that is not included please do get in touch and we can add it to the next and online edition. Entry in the booklet is not an endorsement and users will need to decide if the service is correct for them. There are two memory cafes: one is in Peasedown St John that meets on the last Thursday of every month between 10.30am and noon. The other café is in Chew Magna, meeting on the last Tuesday of each month from 10.45-12.15pm. Contact Information Telephone: 01225 366196 Email: Activities Bath & North East Somerset Dementia Action Alliance What is this service This is a voluntary organisation concerned with making Bath and North East Somerset dementia friendly. The DAA educates businesses, groups and organisations on how to become dementia friendly. It also maintains a list of activities that are available for those living with dementia in the B&NES area. Contact Information Telephone: 07903734610 Email: Activities Bath & North East Somerset Council – Library Services What is this service The Council ofer a library service and home delivery for anyone who can’t get to their local library or mobile library. There are 80+ volunteers who take books to people who are housebound or with dementia. There is also a whole shelf full of books called ‘reminiscence packs’ full of photos/ art books/ art works/ CDs. Contact Information Telephone: 01225 394041 Email: Activities St John’s – Art Group What is this service Anyone can attend including people living with dementia and their carers. The group meets every Wednesday between 1.30 and 3.30 at the Parish Hall. Alzheimer’s Society – Singing for the Brain – hosted by the Peggy Dodd Centre What is this service Singing for the Brain takes place at 10.00am-11.30am every Friday and involves 45 minutes of tea/cofee/chatting and 45 minutes of singing with actions.
