It’s an elegant and simple blend designed as a refreshing addition to green smoothies. I created it to increase hydration, conquer cravings, replace mindless eating and deliver the texture of juice with the fiber of green smoothies. The only tool needed to create Beauty Water is a blender. You don’t need an expensive or high—speed blender because water with small amounts of greens and fruit doesn’t require a turbo motor to blend smooth. I call these simple blends Beauty Water because they infuse you with the prerequisites of feeling and looking beautiful without the extreme measures of a denial diet, detoxification or cleanse. And also because the ingredients themselves are beautiful in color, taste, texture, shape, aroma and water. They bring you hydration, vitamins, minerals, fiber and in many of the waters, chlorophyll. These are beauty—building essentials in a doable and inexpensive beverage. Our blood is 83% water and our muscles are 75% water. Our brain is 74% water and our bones are 22% water. We are mostly made of water. Health professionals and doctors consistently recommend we increase our clean water intake for optimal health. And healthy is beautiful. Yet many of us decline to do so because we find water boring and prefer drinking other beverages. Beauty Water comes to the rescue as it is designed to help you choose water as your main beverage and thirst quencher. The addition of Beauty Water to my greens —drinking—life has delivered smoother skin, more positive moods and attitude, better elimination and increased energy and mental clarity. If you want to feel renewed, rinsed and refreshed drink Beauty Water. The state of being in an ongoing, gentle cleanse, so that you don’t have to partake in a deprivation diet that may harm you, feels good. Pour clean water into your blender and add bits of greens and fruit. Blend, sip, beautify. In this sequel to Green Smoothie Habit I celebrate feeling beautiful from within. Outer beauty fades as we age but our inner beauty remains with us through this Outer beauty fades as we age but our inner beauty remains with us through this life and into eternity. Our beautiful character is, indeed, what we are judged upon. Drinking your greens doesn’t alone build your strong and beautiful character but maintaining the good habit contributes mightily, as drinking greens is a discipline like any other self—improvement plan. The definitions of beauty that I found in an old dictionary from 1828 (American Dictionary of the English Language by Noah Webster) resonated with me. They went beyond definitions of outward beauty and included intrinsic beauty and the beauty of utility, the beauty of a thought or a sound and beauty as an assemblage of graces. These are the qualities I seek when I speak of beauty. Will Beauty Water as I have offered create or ensure these qualities in us? Not by itself, but it’s a contribution and a step in the direction of filling our lives with living water rather than dead. I first made Beauty Water recipes on camera on my YouTube channel and included them on GreenSmoothieHabit.com. Then I offered my Beauty Water formula on pages 240–241 of Green Smoothie Habit, Drink Your Greens To Achieve Your Dreams 28 Day Success Guide: There’s more than one way to feed your green smoothie habit. Why not include my Beauty Waters? I provide many Beauty Water blends at GreenSmoothieHabit.com. I created Beauty Water as an alternative greens drink for those concerned with sugar and carbohydrate intake, for those who want a change from thick smoothies and for those who want a craving killing, greens delivering, lumen igniting beverage, not a meal replacement. Water is the base instead of fruit and the amount of greens is reduced. Beauty Water also solves the juicing versus blending question. It doesn’t have to be either/or. Why not combine juicing and blending? Beauty Water does just that. My Beauty Water blends retain the fiber of green smoothies and the texture of juice and can be made in a blender. There’s no need to buy an additional appliance such as an expensive juicer. Sweeteners are optional in Beauty Water. A pitted date, drizzle of honey, or small piece of fruit all work, but are not required. Have some leftover greens? Blend, sip and beautify. Try a squeeze of lemon, lime or orange juice for zing. My simple Beauty Water Formula works every time. And now for your convenience I’m bringing you refined and updated Beauty Water recipes. I crafted Beauty Water to taste mild and pleasant, not too green and not too sweet so as not to excite your appetite or trigger sugar cravings. I have kept the amounts of fruit low to keep the sugar content low and not spike have kept the amounts of fruit low to keep the sugar content low and not spike blood sugar levels, to keep the calorie count low so you are free to sip no matter what your diet, be it belief based, a cleanse or detoxification program, gluten free, low fat, low carbohydrate, Mediterranean, Paleolithic, raw food, vegan, vegetarian, everythingarian or weight loss. Yet I have not forgotten our sweet tooth and have included a couple of calming treats for when you just have to have them. Think of Beauty Water as a complement and addition to green smoothies, always there for you, taking its rightful place in the greens drinking culture. If you are a greens—drinking—lifer like I am or would like to become one, then you will need the variety in taste and texture that Beauty Water provides. TRANSITION Another benefit of Beauty Water is its ability to help you transition from high— sugar—chemical—caffeine—negative—side—effects—beverages to drinking water. The mild flavors I have created are made to help you train your taste buds away from expecting sweetness in your beverages to expecting hydration and to knowing the difference. The place that Beauty Water can take in your life is to help you choose water as your main beverage and do it in a way that adds flavor and fiber. You may think you’re hungry when you’re really thirsty. There’s no way to know for sure except in that instance to drink water instead of eating. Maybe you can avoid overeating by sipping Beauty Water. Say so long to sugar cravings and mindless eating and hello to hydration and happiness. ALKALINITY Fresh fruit and greens always top the list of alkaline foods and diets, recommendations for better health, mindset, aging and disease prevention. Alkaline foods are calming and neutral and create an environment of health and not harm when we consume them. I know from experience that I feel good when I consume fresh fruits and vegetables. I am able to maintain a positive attitude, peristaltic pleasantness and a cheerful outlook more easily when I consume water and Beauty Water, green smoothies and plant food. The alkalinity of a solution is measured on a scale of 1 to 14. Alkaline means having a pH greater than 7 and capable of neutralizing an acid. For our purposes, it’s whether the food item is acidic or alkaline after digestion that is important. For instance, a lemon is acidic and tastes sour, but after it is digested it results in an alkaline ash that does not have an acidic effect on the body. Therefore lemons are considered alkaline. Below, as a general reference I have categorized the approximate alkalinity of ingredients. I have also included calorie counts for each recipe in the SIP section, although most Beauty Waters are low in calories. I find when alkaline greens are paired with mild and moderately acidic fruits they balance each other in pleasing flavors and colors. 1. Highly alkaline: aloe gel, baby greens, butter head lettuce, chard, cilantro, collards, cucumber, dandelion, fennel, kale, mint, Red—leaf lettuce and spinach. 2. Moderately alkaline: chia seeds and ginger root. 3. Mildly alkaline: apple, basil, blueberries, figs, lemon, lime and parsley. Neutral: fresh coconut water and salt. 3. Mildly acid: cherries, grapes, honey, mango, orange, pear, peaches, strawberry and watermelon. 2. Moderately acid: carob powder, date, pineapple, pomegranate and raspberry. 1. Highly acid: there are no highly acid ingredients in Beauty Water. WATER The water I use is not special alkaline water that has been processed to achieve a pH of 7 or above. It is regular water, distilled or purified. I refill bottles at our local market because it is budget friendly and I can reuse the bottles. If you want to purchase alkaline water (or alkalinize your own) for use in my Beauty Water recipes it is fine to do so but not necessary. The addition of fruits and greens and especially citrus to water assists alkalinity. Also, the water in fruits and greens is naturally distilled and purified by Mother Nature. The more high water content fresh fruits and vegetables we eat and drink the more pure water we naturally consume and the less processed water we have to buy. By blending these components we achieve the simultaneous consumption of water, vitamins, minerals and fiber for an alkaline inner rinse. I have used twelve different greens including two varieties of kale and lettuce and nineteen different types of fruits in these Beauty Water recipes to illustrate a small portion of the many blends that are possible. I included familiar greens and fruit so as not to frustrate you with difficult to find or expensive to acquire ingredients. Remember to use what is in season and ripe for tasty and budget friendly results.
