It is well known that numbers in these age groups traditionally dwindle, but our success in retaining cadet members is reflected in the largest group completing the SRC program to date. 24 SRC Candidates completed the course, a record number that we hope to maintain in the coming years. This is an encouraging sign that demonstrates the clubs focus on retaining under 13 and 14 members is starting to pay dividends. The retention within the U14’s ranks through the transition to cadets is vital for the health of our patrols, the exuberance and enthusiasm that our new recruits embraced their patrolling duties with was rewarding for the trainers and an indication that our patrolling numbers will remain healthy for some time. This was the first time the club has achieved this result in over 10 years, the last being when the club hosted the event. The success continued at the 2012 NSW State Titles at Kingscliffe, albeit with a smaller Board & Ski team. Lilli Smyth bagged a bronze in the long sand run, Emma Burgess toiled hard for a bronze in both the open & U/19 ski events and a tight team of Jess Carah, Sarah Lumley & Josie Bailey grabbed a silver in the ski relay. Once again there were many sterling efforts to make finals. On to the 2012 Aussies and in the toughest surf lifesaving event in the world, the Coffs Board & Ski team can hold their heads high for the efforts made. Zoe Burgess made 2 finals (iron woman & board ), her sister Emma made the U/19 ski final and Jess Carah swam her heart out in the surf race final, with the U 15 girls board relay finishing a very credible 5th.
