Why a Cookie Program? Welcome to the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scout Cookie Program!!! For nearly 100 years, Girl Scouts and their enthusiastic supporters have helped ensure the success of the iconic annual cookie sale—and they’ve had fun, developed valuable life skills, and made their communities a better place every step of the way. You, our amazingly dedicated Juliette cookie parents, do so much more than just run a sale. People like you ensure that Girl Scouts have been able to earn the funding they need to make their programmatic desires and dreams become a reality for 100 years! It’s been this way since the beginning! You the Juliette cookie parent are responsible for so much. The paper work and money management alone is a full time job for the length of the sale. You have to become a mediator, moderator, financial guru, banker, inventory control expert, and above all learn the true meaning of patience. Never lose sight of the most important thing for which you, the Juliette parents, are responsible for, that is your Girl Scouts! They are always first and foremost! Help them reach their goals, help them realize their dreams, help guide them to be the best they are destined to be. It’s 50(ish) days that teach her that CAN is so much better than CAN’T. YOU teach her this life lesson through your diligence and your presence. When a girl learns she can believe in herself and succeed, reach her goals, you give her the ability to survive all that life may throw at her. Your Juliette Product Sales Specialist is standing by your side to walk you through this sale. It may get confusing, it may frustrate you, but you are never standing there alone. Utilize this guide, your contract, the Juliette blog page, and your mentor. - We promise the answers are there for you. For those of you who might get lost due to our special cookie vocabulary, we put a glossary at the back of this guide for you. We wish you success in this 100th year of the cookie sale and always. Cookie Basics There are two bakers in the United States authorized by Girl Scouts of the USA to bake Girl Scout Cookies. Each council chooses which baker it would like to use. We are proud to have our cookies baked by ABC Bakers (America’s Best Cookies, a division of Interbake Foods). San Gorgonio and Orange County councils are the only Southern California Councils using ABC Bakers. 4 Although they have different names for them, both bakers bake the classic five varieties (Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches and Shortbread), but have the option of three additional varieties. The recipes of the two bakers for the classic five cookies are similar, but not exact. NEW COOKIE: Girl Scout S’mores We've updated the modern S'mores snack with our own twist! We took a crispy graham cookie and double dipped it with a yummy crème icing and a scrumptious chocolatey coating so you get all the flavor of this fireside favorite without the sticky mess. A sweet addition for the new cookie season: Made with real cocoa, this new cookie, is vegan, and free of artificial colors and preservatives. The Gluten Free Trios Chocolate chips nestled in a gluten free peanut butter oatmeal cookie. Millions of Americans can’t tolerate eating food with gluten – so ABC bakers has created a delicious cookie just for them! Made with real chocolate chips, real peanut butter and certified gluten free whole grain oats. NOTE: The gluten free cookie orders were due in by September 29th, 2016. If you did not or could not place an advanced pre- order for your Juliette, then you will only be able to get them if another troop or Juliette wishes to trade some with your Girl Scout or transfer them to your Girl Scout. We are not able to order more. You must submit Cookie Cupboard Requests online and at least 48 hours in advance to help manage inventory and demand and streamline the process. Orders must total full CASES. They may authorize someone other than themselves to pick up cookies from the Cookie Cupboard by completing Product Pick-up Substitute Form and show a valid Driver’s License or Photo ID. This person must be over the age of 18. NO ID = NO COOKIES!!! Here is the link to the Juliette Cookie Cupboard Request form: https://girlscoutsgssgc.wufoo.com/forms/2017-juliette-cookie-cupboard-request/ 7 Keep in mind that requests are reviewed during council hours TUESDAY through Thursday 8 am to 5 pm. Please plan accordingly. Any Cupboard Request submitted Friday after 5 pm will not be seen until Tuesday at 8 am. To ensure your cupboard request is reviewed before the weekend, submit by 10 am on Thursday. Online Cookie Cupboard requests will be sent directly to the Product Sales Juliette Specialist when you click submit. The Product Sales Juliette Specialist will then notify the Juliette guardian via email of their approval to pick up at their submitted location. She will copy the Cookie Cupboard Manager in the approval email. Please do not go to the cupboard to attempt to check out cookies without the approval. The Juliette guardian or their representative who is picking up the product must print or be able to show the Cupboard Request approval email at cupboard. Cupboard Managers do not have the ability to print at cupboards nor do they have enough time to search for emails either. Cupboard Managers have been instructed that without the Cupboard Request approval email printed or viewable on a mobile device, Juliettes are unable to pick up cookies. If for any reason the Cookie Cupboard Manger needs to communicate a change of pick up date due to shortage of product or any other date-product cupboard change with the Juliette guardian, then the Cookie Cupboard Manger will respond directly to the Juliette guardian. The Product Sales Juliette Specialist should be copied in on all the email responses at [email protected]. Be careful of picking up too many additional cookies from the Cookie Cupboards as you are not able to return any cookies to Council. You are responsible to pay the full amount owed to Council for all the cookies you have picked up from cupboards and Mega Drop whether your Girl Scout was able to sell them or not. It is better to go to cupboard multiple times per week rather than paying for cookies out of your pocket. Remember, you may go to any cupboard during cupboard hours for even trading of flavors without prior approval. Cookie Storage Cookies should be stored OFF THE GROUND to prevent ants and insects from crawling into the cases. Keep cookies out of the sun and be mindful of storing them in hot places such as garages or cars, no one wants to open a box of melted cookies. Keep cookies out of the rain and snow, especially during cookie booths. Even though the cookies are sealed inside, no one wants to buy boxes that are water stained. Be careful not to drop cases or boxes, no one wants to buy broken cookies. Store cookies away from strong odors such as cigarette smoke and pungent foods. Do not store cookies in your vehicles to avoid cookies from melting and to prevent theft. Many parents with cookie signage on their vehicles like to keep cookies in their cars in case customers stop them while parked. However, doing so encourages theft as well as often causes cookies to melt from the heat. Remember, when you receive the cookies, they are not melted. Melted cookies cannot be sold and therefore, become your personal property which must be paid for by you. Protect the product. COCO Command Before you get started: Remember, the Juliette Troop Number is 7000! If your Girl Scout was not registered by October 1st, 2016, then they will most likely be unable to create a COCO account. Cookie Command" center for their cookie business. COCO helps girls: Set their goal of how many packages of cookies they want to sell this year. Make plans for how they will reach their goals. Check on sale progress. Send eCards to their friends and family to tell them “It’s Cookie Time” and ask for their support. Girls can even see what their friends are doing and send them cheers to help them along! 8 COCO offers an online sale component where girls can send emails to friends and families, and cookies can be purchased online and shipped directly to their customers. When creating the COCO account, girls MUST use the same name as they are registered under as a Girl Scout, which is also what will be uploaded/entered in SNAP+ to ensure they are credited for their online sales. How are sales/money credited into SNAP+ from online sales via COCOdirect? COCO directly links to SNAP. If the girl’s names do not match COCO to SNAP+, manual corrections will need to be made to correct the girl’s names. All online sales count towards rewards levels, as well as Juliette troop proceeds. Get them started by going to: http://www.abcsmartcookies.com/COCO-1 IMPORTANT: Remember, it's always best to work online with an adult.
