Town of Arlington, MA - Affirmative Action Minutes 01/10/2001 Page 1of 1 Affirmative Action Minutes 01/10/2001 MEETING MINUTES The Affirmative Action Advisory Committee met on Wednesday, January 10, 2001 @ 7:30 P.M. In the Office of the Personnel Director on the 3rd Floor of the Town Hall Annex. Present:        Adrienne McClure (Chair), Barbara Boltz, Franz Browne, Augusta Haydock, Howard Winkler, Also Present:   Chris Ryan and John Dunlap Absent: Elaine Maclachlan and Jack Jones Meeting Minutes                  So voted Renovations:    Mr. Dunlap reported that minority participation at the Hardy is 29% and female participation is at 3%.  He stated that he has received copies of correspondence between A. Bonfatti and several of the subcontractors that related to female and minority participation.   Mr. Dunlap stated that he believes that Dick Madonia, the Town’s Project Manager, and Dan Kelley, of Bonfatti, both were committed to increasing the female percentage. Hiring Updates:  The Committee expressed consensus that a general advertisement be placed in the minority newspapers prior to the next police and fire exams.  This advertisement would encourage minorities and women to select Arlington as one of their four communities when taking either of these exams. Mr. Dunlap gave an update of two issues in the Town that may impact police and fire hiring.  The first is the Crest Study, which has called for more police officers.  The second issue deals with ambulance service in the Town.  The need may arise for the Town to hire trained paramedics.  If so, the Town would not request a minority or female list during the next round of vacancies.  Instead the Town would request a list of those candidates who are licensed paramedics.  Mr. Dunlap then gave a general update about personnel actions taking place within the Town. Continuing Business Mr. Dunlap informed the committee that Town Manager Farrington would be attending the March meeting. Ms. Boltz informed the committee that Gus Martinson has been hired as the new Human Resources Director for the Arlington Public Schools.  Ms. Boltz suggested that he be invited to attend a meeting of the Affirmative Action Advisory Committee. Committee members expressed their frustration that meeting notices have not been arriving in a timely fashion. The Committee adjourned. http://www.arlingtonma.gov/Public_Documents/ArlingtonMA_AffAct/2001/S0003AE1D?textPage=1 11/21/2013
