We Editor’s Notes: I hope its getting to be Spring where you are. had 6 inches of snow on the 29th of February to sort of underline how mild out winter has been in Wausau so far this year. We’re way behind on yearly snowfall but I’m not complaining. Elsewhere in this issue I’ve written up a CPMX report on the Show in Chicago in early March. I was there helping the Krause people put on the show and I know you’ll be interested in how the Dr. Wally Lee auction went. Our esteemed President Emeritus has been a giant in Michigan collecting and has a book to his credit to show it. While you’re reading this issue, think about writing an article, member David Gelwicks offers the first in what could be a very interesting series on Upper Peninsula Michigan and the more, the merrier, I always say. 4 / A OUR COVER: This issue I thought I’d offer a Canadian Small Size Charter Bank Note for your enjoyment. These notes have gained popularity recently and there are only 9 small size Charter banks. This one from Nova Scotia is quite colorful with a rainbow affect radiating out ofthe device containing the 5 designation in the center ofthe note it is in alternating pastel blue and pink. I picked it up at the Canadian National Convention in Windsor last year. There are a multitude of Large Size Charter Notes, but these small ones are a little easier to collect. BOOK OF THE MONTH SELECTION: Look for Fred Reed’s book A on Lincoln. It is widely heralded as an excellent read. recent edition of Coin World contained an excellent article by Fred on the photographs used to model the Lincoln cent. Fred is the editor of Paper Money, the magazine of the Society of Paper Money Collectors. Ifyou’re not a member ofthe Society, contact Frank Clark, membership committee for SPMC at PO Box 117060, Carrollton, TX 75011. See Frank’s Want Ad elsewhere in this issue. Once again we are unable to run BEP production figures as non are BWP published on the web site. Last entries are from July of 2011. They report they are updating reporting procedures. 3 Presidents Column By Karl Mark Pall The Spring MSNS April Show The annual MSNS Show will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, where Michigan Tokens and Medals Society and the Polish American Numismatic Society will serve as co-hosts. Lyn Knight Chicago Auction By now our membership is back from the Knight 3 day auction that featured obsoletes, nationals, scrip and other currencies that included Dr. Wallace Lee, James “Billy” key and Davis. Persons That shared their auction experiences said “it was an once in a lifetime auction”. Of course it had to be with notes from fabulous collections from these Michigan aficionados. I’m told bidders on the floor and online kept a brisk pace as the lots came up. Shared with me was the importance offilling voids in our special collections. I’m happy to say Michigan Obsoletes where I bid a won will go my into books. The Lee for 2012 Please start thinking about the 2012 Lee. Remember your display must be Michigan paper. It could be bank notes, obsoletes, scrip, historical paper, other paper memorabilia.
