Description:

One Girl Many Lives brings together five individual writers in order to create five collaborative storylines separated by time and space yet anchored together by life, loss and a yearning above all to belong.

Set in varied locations and time zones each individual tale is inspired by one single photographic image, with each of the resulting stories being used to explore the aftermath of momentously historic events that in themselves have helped to shape our history. Endearing, thrilling, gladdening and heartbreaking, these stories capture how we view our identities in times of both peace and conflict.

Like we did previously for our last published book, ‘Through the Mist‘, for ‘One Girl Many Lives’ too, the core inspiration was one single Photographic image (which can be seen on the books cover). Along with this carefully chosen photograph, a year and a place were also mentioned, with the rest left upto each individual Author to come up with.

Our hand picked Authors were all encouraged to let their own imagination run wild without any other limits, and to come up with their own compelling storylines from these deliberately limited points of inspiration.

Lahore 1947: A little girl loses her home and family in the partition riots.

Colombo 1983: A girl has to search for a new home with her family in the aftermath of 'Black July'.

New York 2000: A young woman searches for love and companionship at the turn of the century.

Paris 2015: A princess on the run from an 'arranged marriage' traces her family’s royal roots while in hiding.

Greenland 2135: An astronaut is at the center of a quest by her parents to honour her memory.

Ajit Yadav, Anshu Bhojnagarwala, Jithin S, Priya Bajpai and Sona Grover are the 5 writers who meshed together to create these 5 short stories, as presented in ‘One Girl Many Lives’.

Each person started one story, as well as finishing off one story. And like a chain they continued from where the other person ended their own contribution to the story. Once again our in-house editor Abitha coordinated everything and helped the chosen writers to shape up their stories into what we hope is an interesting read.
