DC-9 Ou OWE > If you are sitting in an exit row please identify yourself to a crew member to allow for reseating if: You lack the ability to read, speak, or understand English, or the graphic form, or the ability to understand oral crew commands. EXIT ROW SEATING The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations (14 CFR, Part 121 and 135) outline specific policies and procedures U.S. air carriers must follow concerning exit row seating in aircraft. The following content of the rules is being provided for your information and guidance. SELECTION CRITERIA No air carrier may seat a person in an exit row seat if it is likely that the person would be unable to perform one or more of the applicable functions listed below because: 1. The person lacks sufficient mobility, strength, or dexterity in both arms andh ands, and both legs to. The person lacks the abilty t0 read and understand instructions related to emergency evacuation vided by the air carrier inpr inted. handwritten, or graphifcor mo r the ability to understand oral crew commands in the English language. 4. The person lacks sufficient visualc apacity to perform one or more of the applicable functions showna nt his card without the nceo f visuaiadlsb eyond contact lenses or eyeglasses; 5 lacks alc apacittoyh e ara ndu nderstand instructions shouted by crew members without assistance beyond 2 hearing aid 6 The person lacks to impart inlormation orally o other passengers on of responsibiltes, such as carfionrsg mal l children, that might prevent the person from one or mo the applicable functions; or (b)a candtion that might cause the person harm ithe or she performs one or more of the applic FUNCTIONS TO BE PERFORMED In the event of an emergency in which a crew member is not available to assist in an evacuation of the aircraft, @ passenger occupying an exit row seat may be asked to perform the following functions: Locate the emergency exit Recognize the emergency exit opening mechanism: Compreherd the instructions for operating the emergency exit Operate the emergency exit Assess whether opening the emergency exit wil mcrease the hazards to which passenge may be exo sed Follow oral drectons and hand signals given by a crewm ember Stow or secure the emerge oFS oth at itwil l not impede use of the exit Assess the condition of an escape slide, activatteh es lide, and stabilze the side after deploymetntoa s othersi nge tting off the siide Passe xpeditiously through the emergency exit, and Assess, Select, and follow a safe path away from the emergency exil Any passenger assigned a seat in an exit row may request reseating if he or she: 1. Cannot meet the selection criteria above: 2. Has a nondiscernibie condition that will prevent him or her from p forming the applicable functions, 3. May suffer bodily harm as a res of performing one or more of the applicable functions tions 4 Does not wish to perform the tun 5.
