Approved July 30, 2001 American National Standards Institute Abstract This standard applies to personnel whose specific tasks or jobs require appropriate knowledge of the technical principles underlying nondestructive testing (NDT) methods for which they have responsibilities within the scope of their employment. These specific tasks or jobs include, but are not limited to, performing, specifying, reviewing, monitoring, supervising, and evaluating NDTwork. To the extent applicable to the standard set forth herein, The American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc. (ASNT) does not assume the validity or invalidity, enforceability or unenforceability of patent rights, registered trademarks or copyrights in connection with any item referred to in this standard, study materials, or examinations. Users of this standard, study materials, or examinations are further cautioned and expressly advised that determination of the validity or enforceability of any such patent rights, trademarks, or copyrights, and the risk of the infringement of such rights through misuse of protected materials are the responsibility of the user. Reference to or pictorial depiction of specific types of products or equipment are for purposes of illustration only and do not represent the endorsement of such products or equipment by ASNT. Employers or other persons utilizing nondestructive testing services are cautioned that they retain full responsibility for ultimate determination of the qualifications of NDTpersonnel and for the certification process. The process of personnel qualification and certification as detailed in the standard does not relieve the employer of the ultimate legal responsibility to ensure that the NDTpersonnel are fully qualified for the tasks being undertaken. This standard is subject to revision or withdrawal at any time by ASNT. i 中国工业检验检测网 http://www.industryinspection.com CP-189-2001 American Approval of an American National Standard requires verification by ANSI that the requirements for due process, consensus, and other criteria for approval have been met by National the standards developer. Standard Consensus is established when, in the judgement of the ANSI Board of Standards Review, substantial agreement has been reached by directly and materially affected interests. Substantial agreement means much more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanimity. Consensus requires that all views and objections be considered, and that a concerted effort be made toward their resolution. The use of American National Standards is completely voluntary; their existence does not in any respect preclude anyone, whether they have approved the standards or not, from manufacturing, marketing, purchasing or using products, processes, or products not conforming to the standards. The American National Standards Institute does not develop standards and will in no circumstances give an interpretation of any American National Standard. Moreover, no person shall have the right or authority to issue an interpretation of an American National Standard in the name of the American National Standards Institute. An essential element in the effectiveness of nondestructive testing (NDT) is the qualification of the personnel who are responsible for and who perform nondestructive testing. Formal training and actual experience are important and necessary elements in acquiring the skills necessary to effectively perform nondestructive tests. The American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc. (ASNT) has, therefore, undertaken the preparation and publication of this standard which specifies the procedures, essential factors, and minimum requirements for qualifying and certifying NDTpersonnel. The ASNTStandard for Qualification and Certification of Nondestructive Testing Personnel (Document No. ASNT-CP-189) was initially processed and approved for submittal to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) by the ASNTStandards Writing Committee. This revision was processed by the ASNTStandards Development Committee. Committee approval of the standard does not necessarily imply that all committee members voted for its approval. At the time it approved this standard, the Standards Development Committee had the following members: Michael McDaniel, Chairman Ronald T. Nisbet, Vice-Chairman Mark A. Randig, Secretary George C. Belev Paul Deeds, Jr. Todd S. Fleckenstein Darrell Harris Victor Hernandez Stephen J. Lavender Richard McGuire Cornelius Murren William C. Plumstead Michael J. Ruddy Bruce D. Schlueter Mike Skaggs Kirit V. Smart Mike Turnbow John H. Weiler Approved by the Standards Development Committee July 30, 2001. Final approval of the Standards Development committee occurred on November 14, 2000 with consensus achieved in the canvass group February 12, 2001. Appendix C is not a part of this American National Standard. vi 中国工业检验检测网 http://www.industryinspection.com CP-189-2001 vii 中国工业检验检测网 http://www.industryinspection.com CP-189-2001 ASNT Standard for providing instruction in an orderly, planned, and systematic fashion.
